Microperimetric analysis of eyes after macular hole surgery with indocyanine green staining: a retrospective study.

BMC Ophthalmol

October 2023

Department of Ophthalmology, Kangbuk Samsung Hospital, Sungkyunkwan University School of Medicine, 29, Saemunan-ro, Jongno-gu, 03181Korea, Seoul, South Korea.

Background: Indocyanine green (ICG) aids in the visualization of the internal limiting membrane (ILM). Retinal damage from ICG dye toxicity has been reported through in vitro and in vivo studies. However, the clinical toxic effect of ICG during macular surgery has not been functionally evaluated.

Background: Vitrectomy combined with internal limiting membrane (ILM) peeling or ILM inverted flap greatly improves hole closure and vision prognosis for idiopathic macular holes (IMH). The application of indocyanine green (ICG) in MH surgery increases the visibility of ILM and the safety of surgery. However, the area of ILM peeling and the state of the flap and a closed hole has not been well observed.

Inverted internal limiting membrane flap technique for large macular holes: a systematic review and single-arm meta-analysis.

Graefes Arch Clin Exp Ophthalmol

June 2018

Department of Ophthalmology, Shanghai General Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, 100 Haining Road, Hongkou District, Shanghai, 200080, People's Republic of China.

Purpose: The aim of this systematic review was to determine the anatomical outcome-macular hole (MH) closure rate-and functional outcome-visual acuity (VA) improvement rate-of the inverted internal limiting membrane (ILM) flap technique for large MH.

Methods: We searched for articles on large MH (> 400 μm) treated with inverted ILM flap technique in databases as of December 1, 2017. And single-arm meta-analysis was performed for the primary outcome of MH closure rate and the secondary outcome of VA improvement rate.

Purpose: To determine whether the visual field defects detected within 3 months of indocyanine green (ICG)-assisted inner-limiting membrane (ILM) peeling continue to worsen over longer periods.

Methods: This was a retrospective observational case series. Four eyes with visual field defects that developed within 3 years of ICG-assisted ILM peeling for a macular hole (MH) were examined yearly for 10 years.

To compare the anatomical and visual outcomes of 20 gauge (g) pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) with indocyanine green (ICG)-assisted internal limiting membrane (ILM) peeling and 23 g PPV with brilliant blue G (BBG)-assisted ILM peeling for idiopathic epiretinal membrane (ERM). 38 eyes of 38 patients with idiopathic ERM were included. They were divided in two groups: group 1 (18 eyes) underwent 20 g PPV with ICG-assisted ILM peeling and group 2 (20 eyes) 23 g PPV with BBG-assisted ILM peeling.
