A microfluidics platform for simultaneous evaluation of sensitivity and side effects of anti-cancer drugs using a three-dimensional culture method.

Sci Rep

January 2025

Laboratory of Veterinary Pharmacology, Department of Veterinary Medicine, Faculty of Agriculture, Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, 3-5-8 Saiwai-cho, Fuchu , Tokyo, 183-8509, Japan.

Organoids are stem cell-derived three-dimensional tissue cultures composed of multiple cell types that recapitulate the morphology and functions of their in vivo counterparts. Organ-on-a-chip devices are tiny chips with interconnected wells and channels designed using a perfusion system and microfluidics to precisely mimic the in vivo physiology and mechanical forces experienced by cells in the body. These techniques have recently been used to reproduce the structure and function of organs in vitro and are expected to be promising alternatives for animal experiments in the future.

Background: It is believed that anthracosis is one of the most important occupational diseases, mainly seen in the residents of industrial areas and coal mine workers. This bronchial disease is more common in Asia's rural areas, particularly in the Middle East. In this study, we examined the epidemiology and genetic factors affecting this disease and its relationship with different types of cancer.

Vitamin D Significantly Inhibits Carcinogenesis in the Mogp-TAg Mouse Model of Fallopian Tube Ovarian Cancer.

Nutrients

September 2024

Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Division of Gynecologic Oncology, Endeavor Health, Evanston, IL 60201, USA.

Epidemiological and observational studies suggest that vitamin D has potential for the chemoprevention of ovarian cancer. The anticancer effect of vitamin D in the fallopian tube epithelium (FTE), which is now thought to harbor the precursor cells for high grade ovarian cancer, is not known. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether vitamin D can inhibit carcinogenesis in the mogp-TAg fallopian tube (FT) ovarian cancer mouse model and examine underlying mechanisms.

Therapeutic potential and action mechanisms of licochalcone B: a mini review.

Front Mol Biosci

July 2024

Department of Medical Biotechnology, Yeungnam University, Gyeongsan, Republic of Korea.

Licochalcone B (LicB), a chalcone derived from and glabra, has received considerable attention due to its diverse pharmacological properties. Accumulated data indicates that LicB has pharmacological effects that include anti-cancer, hepatoprotective, anti-inflammatory, and neuroprotective properties. The action mechanism of LicB has been linked to several molecular targets, such as phosphoinositide 3-kinase/Akt/mammalian target of rapamycin, p53, nuclear factor-κB, and p38, and the involvements of caspases, apoptosis, mitogen-activated protein kinase-associated inflammatory pathways, and anti-inflammatory nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 signaling pathways highlight the multifaceted therapeutic potential of LicB.
