Thirteen pyridine-3-carboxylic acid salt derivatives with various substituted phenacyl residues were prepared and their cytotoxicity, antibacterial and antifungal activities tested. Compounds 5 and 11 proved to be active in the brine shrimp bioassay, compounds 7, 9-12 and 14 showed promising antibacterial activities, whereas none of the compounds tested against 15 fungal cultures proved to be active. Extensive spectroscopic techniques were employed to confirm the structure of the synthetic products.

Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) may mitigate the danger of increasing antimicrobial resistance. We aimed to determine the activities of catestatin, temporin A, nisin and cecropin A against Bacteroides fragilis ATCC 25285, Prevotella melaninogenica ATCC 25845, Cutibacterium acnes ATCC 6919, Peptostreptococcus anaerobius ATCC 27337 and Peptostreptococcus stomatis DSM 17678. strains.

This study attempts to prove that the antioxidant effect of fucoxanthin nanoparticles can prevent streptozotocin-induced rat liver damage. Fucoxanthin nanoparticles are synthesized using the high-energy ball milling method. Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS) was then used to describe the sizes of the fucoxanthin nanoparticles.

CO/CH separation is crucial for biogas upgrading. In this study, the bamboo-derived activated carbons (BACs) were prepared with different ratios of potassium hydroxide (KOH)/bamboo charcoal (BC), and the hybrid sorbents of aqueous BACs were developed for CO/CH separation. Both the gas solubility and sorption rate were measured, and Henry's constant and liquid-side mass-transfer coefficient as well as the CO/CH selectivity were calculated.

Graphene oxide (GO) is an amphiphilic and versatile graphene-based nanomaterial that is extremely promising for targeted drug delivery, which aims to administer drugs in a spatially and temporally controlled manner. A typical GO nanocarrier features a polyethylene glycol coating and conjugation to an active targeting ligand. However, it is challenging to accurately model GO dots, because of their intrinsically complex and not unique structure.
