Despite the outstanding progress in photonic sensor devices, a major limitation for its application as label-free biosensors for biomedical analysis lies in the surface biofunctionalization step, that is, the reliable immobilization of the biorecognition element onto the sensor surface. Here, we report the integration of bottom-up synthesized nanoporous graphene onto bimodal waveguide interferometric biosensors as an atomically precise biofunctionalization scaffold. This combination leverages the high sensitivity of bimodal waveguide interferometers and the large functional surface area of nanoporous graphene to create highly sensitive, selective, and robust biosensors for the direct immunoassay detection of C-reactive protein (CRP), an inflammatory biomarker widely used in the clinical diagnosis of infections and sepsis.

The treatment for osteoarthritis (OA) often requires total joint arthroplasty (TJA) when less invasive approaches fail. The annual incidence of TJA is rising. Metal-on-metal (MoM) hip and knee implants were widely used for TJA in the past, but complications have led to their decline.

The Great Lakes spiny reed frog () was recently described from transitional (submontane) forests at mid-elevations of the Albertine Rift mountains in the eastern Congolian region. Previously, because of its similarity, it had been understood to represent eastern populations of the unrelated , which is known mainly from Cameroon. Based on DNA barcoding, we document the westward extension of the known range of within lowland rainforests in the Northeastern and Central Congolian Lowland Forests.

Several recent investigations into montane regions have reported on excess mercury accumulation in high-altitude forest ecosystems. This study explored the Singalila National Park, located on the Singalila ridge of the Eastern Himalayas, revealing substantial mercury contamination. Particular focus was on Sandakphu (3636 m), the highest peak in West Bengal, India.

Background: Permethrin is a pesticide used to kill insects, and once used in excess, it poses a great threat to the environment and human health, therefore, it is necessary to realize the rapid and accurate detection of permethrin. Fiber optic surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) probes have the advantages of small volume and can be used for remote monitoring, which have great potential for application in achieving in-situ detection of pesticide residues.
Results: Fiber taper waist (FTW) SERS probes modified by silver nanocubes-graphene oxide (Ag NCs-GO) composite structures were prepared for in situ detection of permethrin in lake water.
