Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates interpersonal behavior in children and adolescents with conduct disorder by examining both explicit and implicit interactions in a virtual reality setting.
  • Results show that while typically developing children modify their personal space based on the emotional expressions of virtual peers, those with conduct disorder do not demonstrate this adaptive behavior.
  • The lack of adjustment in interpersonal distance among conduct disorder patients is linked to heightened callous-unemotional traits and social anxiety.

Objective: CHD predisposes children to neurodevelopmental delays. Frequent, prolonged hospitalisations during infancy prevent children with heart disease from participating in recommended language and cognitive development programmes, such as outpatient early childhood literacy programmes, and contribute to caregiver stress, a risk factor for adverse developmental outcomes. This study aims to describe the implementation of a single-centre inpatient early childhood literacy programme for hospitalised infants with heart disease and assess its impact on reading practices and patient-family hospital experience.

[Mentally ill citizens as victims of violation of physical integrity and extermination under the NS regime based on the example of a German city].

Nervenarzt

September 2024

Klinik für Psychiatrie, Psychotherapie und Präventivmedizin, LWL-Universitätsklinikum, Ruhr-Universität Bochum, Alexandrinenstr. 1, 44791, Bochum, Deutschland.

Background: Even 90 years after the National Socialist seizure of power and the beginning of the darkest chapter of German psychiatric history, examination of the medical historical past retains great relevance as an ongoing medical responsibility. The interventions in the lives of mentally ill people by the National Socialist regime are a firmly established part of medical historical research; however, little is known about how specific regions proceeded with affected citizens.

Objective: The aim of this study was therefore to identify transfer routes of the "euthanasia" transports and places of death of the victims from Bochum as well as their patient characteristics.

Introduction: Following removal of total hip arthroplasty (THA) from the inpatient only (IPO) list by the Center for Medicare Services (CMS), arthroplasty surgeons face increased pressure to perform procedures on an outpatient (OP) basis. The purposes of the present study were to compare patients booked for THA as OP who required conversion to IP status postoperatively, to patients who were booked as, and remained OP, and to identify factors predictive of conversion from OP to IP status.

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed all patients who underwent a primary THA at our institution between January 1, 2020 and April 26, 2022.

At our institution UC San Diego Health, formulary qualifiers such as indication expansions and restrictions based on provider specialty, patient location, or patient characteristics are input as free text into an online formulary platform. Inconsistency in formulary categories and their descriptions since the implementation of the electronic system have led to confusion and inconsistent formulary application amongst staff. We reviewed 880 unique medications with formulary qualifiers to standardize both categories and language.
