To assess the accuracy of magnetoencephalography (MEG) as a tool for quantitative detection of neuronal activity, the dipole moment was estimated at N20m of somatosensory evoked fields (SEFs) produced by median nerve stimulation. Neurologically stable patients were examined twice within 2 weeks. Since the estimated moment values of the two examinations should be essentially the same, we assessed the margin of error for our measurement system. The results showed that a change of more than 5.2 nAm is statistically significant (p=0.05; n=91). The patients were classified as without or with functional asymmetries by measuring the conventional cerebral blood flow (CBF) with single photon emission CT (SPECT), and the dipole moment difference between hemispheres was measured. Hemispheric moment differences were statistically larger for the group with CBF laterality, indicating consistency between conventional CBF results and the moment measurements as a group. Moreover, MEG was able to detect more functional asymmetries than CBF study. The dipole moment provided a reliable quantitative index of cortical response to somatosensory stimulus, and the moment measurement thus holds promise as a clinical tool for direct quantification of cortical response.

This study investigates the phenolic compounds (PC), volatile compounds (VC), and fatty acids (FA) of extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) derived from the Turkish olive variety "Sarı Ulak", along with ADMET, DFT, molecular docking, and gene network analyses of significant molecules identified within the EVOO. Chromatographic methods (GC-FID, HPLC) were employed to characterize FA, PC, and VC profiles, while quality parameters, antioxidant activities (TAC, ABTS, DPPH) were assessed via spectrophotometry. The analysis revealed a complex composition of 40 volatile compounds, with estragole, 7-hydroxyheptene-1, and 3-methoxycinnamaldehyde as the primary components.

Artificial intelligence technology has introduced a new research paradigm into the fields of quantum chemistry and materials science, leading to numerous studies that utilize machine learning methods to predict molecular properties. We contend that an exemplary deep learning model should not only achieve high-precision predictions of molecular properties but also incorporate guidance from physical mechanisms. Here, we propose a framework for predicting molecular properties based on data-driven electron density images, referred to as D3-ImgNet.

Since the pioneering work by Moeller, Szabo, and Bullock, weakly electric fish have served as a valuable model for investigating spatial and social cognitive abilities in a vertebrate taxon usually less accessible than mammals or other terrestrial vertebrates. These fish, through their electric organ, generate low-intensity electric fields to navigate and interact with conspecifics, even in complete darkness. The brown ghost knifefish is appealing as a study subject due to a rich electric 'vocabulary', made by individually variable and sex-specific electric signals.

Oxidative stress, associated with excessive production of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (ROS, RNS), contributes to the development and progression of many ailments, such as aging, cardiovascular diseases, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, diabetes, cancer, preeclampsia or multiple sclerosis. While phenols and polyphenols are the most studied antioxidants structurally similar compounds such as anilines or thiophenols are sporadically analyzed despite their radical scavenging potential. This work assesses the impact of structural features of phenols and thiophenols on their antioxidant activity.
