Supramolecular oleogels, in which low-molecular weight oleogelators self-assemble into various nanostructures through non-covalent interactions, have witnessed increasing research activity in various fields of science, including food, cosmetics or remediation of marine oil spills. Herein, we report a simple scalable and environmentally friendly carbohydrate-based oleogelator, namely, the sodium salt of ,'-dimethyl β- glucosyl barbiturate (GlcBMe) that self-assembles through sonication to induce the gelation of polar organic solvent and later of non-polar vegetable oils by cationic exchange with quaternary ammonium surfactants. Water-soluble GlcBMe was capable of forming self-assembled fibrillar network bridging insoluble particles in the oil by sonication in the presence of a small amount of water.

Single-molecule resolution of the conformation of polymers and dendrimers with solid-state nanopores.

Talanta

Chongqing Institute of Green and Intelligent Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences & Chongqing School, University of Chinese Academy of Science, Chongqing, 400714, PR China. Electronic address:

Polymers and dendrimers are macromolecules, possessing unique and intriguing characteristics, that are widely applied in self-assembled functional materials, green catalysis, drug delivery and sensing devices. Traditional approaches for the structural characterization of polymers and dendrimers involve DLS, GPC, NMR, IR and TG, which provide their physiochemical features and ensemble information, whereas their unimolecular conformation and dispersion also are key features allowing to understand their transporting profile in confined ionic nanochannels. This work demonstrates the nanopore approach for the determination of charged homopolymers, neutral block copolymer and dendrimers under distinct bias potentials and pH conditions.

Hydrogen-Generating Magnesium Alloy Seed Strand Sensitizes Solid Tumors to Iodine-125 Brachytherapy.

Adv Sci (Weinh)

December 2024

Department of Minimally Invasive Intervention, State Key Laboratory of Oncology in South China, Guangdong Provincial Clinical Research Center for Cancer, Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center, Guangzhou, 510060, P. R. China.

Radioactive iodine-125 (I) seed implantation, a brachytherapy technique, effectively kills tumor cells via X-rays and gamma rays, serving as an alternative therapeutic option following the failure of frontline treatments for various solid tumors. However, tumor radioresistance limits its efficacy. Hydrogen gas has anticancer properties and can enhance the efficacy of immunotherapy.

Development of intestinal colonic drug delivery systems for diverticular disease: A QbD approach.

Eur J Pharm Sci

December 2024

Pharmaceutical Sciences Department - Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Technology, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Salamanca, C/ Licenciado Méndez Nieto s/n. 37007 Salamanca. Spain; Biomedical Research Institute of Salamanca (IBSAL), Paseo de San Vicente, 58-182, 37007 Salamanca. Spain.

This study aimed to advance the development of intestinal colon-coated sustained-release matrix tablets of metronidazole for diverticulitis treatment, employing the Quality by Design (QbD) methodology. Comprehensive Risk analysis and Risk evaluation were conducted to assess the potential risks associated with Critical Material Attributes (CMA) and Critical Process Parameters (CPP). Ishikawa diagram, color-coded risk classification and the Risk Priority Number (RPN) were used as tools for risk evaluation.

Small molecular kinase inhibitors play a key role in modern cancer therapy. Protein kinases are essential mediators in the growth and progression of cancerous tumors, rendering involved kinases an increasingly important target for therapy. However, kinase inhibitors are almost insoluble in water because of their hydrophobic aromatic nature, often lowering their availability and pharmacological efficacy.
