Biofilm characterisation of Mycoplasma bovis co-cultured with Trueperella pyogenes.

Vet Res

Animal Health Unit, Department of Veterinary Science, School of Veterinary Medicine, Rakuno Gakuen University, Ebetsu, Hokkaido, Japan.

Mycoplasma pneumonia, caused by Mycoplasma bovis (Mycoplasmopsis bovis; M. bovis), is linked with severe inflammatory reactions in the lungs and can be challenging to treat with antibiotics. Biofilms play a significant role in bacterial persistence and contribute to the development of chronic lesions.

Objective: Reactivity of microglia, the resident cells of the brain, underlies innate immune mechanisms (e.g., injury repair), and disruption of microglial reactivity has been shown to facilitate psychiatric disorder dysfunctions.

Background: Loneliness and social isolation can occur at any stage of life, but some predictors may be more common among older adults. Due to growing population ageing, loneliness and social isolation are relevant social issues. Many studies apply the main definitions of loneliness and social isolation offered by the literature without considering how individual representations, socio-cultural context and the culture of care may influence their perception.

Model organisms are vital for biomedical research and drug testing but face high costs, complexity, and ethical issues. While newer techniques like organoids and assembloids have shown improvements, they still remain inadequate in addressing all research needs. In this study, we present a new method for maintaining the prostate gland of the earthworm, Eudrilus eugeniae ex vivo and examine its potential for regeneration and drug screening.

Combining 3D cultures such as tumor spheroids and organoids with spatial omics holds great potential for tissue biology and cancer research. Yet, this potential is presently limited by technical and financial challenges of spatial omics methods and 3D cultures. To address this, we combine dye diffusion, the Smart-seq3xpress protocol for deep single-cell gene expression profiling, and dedicated probabilistic inference methods into diffusion Smart-seq3 (Smart-seq3D), to reveal the transcriptome of single cells along with their position along the core-periphery axis of spheroids.
