January 2025

Urology and Nephrology Research Center, Research Institute of Urology and Nephrology, Shahid Labbafinejad Medical Center, Urology Department, Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences, Tehran, Iran.

Seven adult male dogs were used for this study.

Article Synopsis
  • Digital vaginal examination (DVE) is the standard method for checking labor progress, but it can be painful and subjective, with variability in results; this study aims to compare DVE to intrapartum transperineal ultrasound (TPUS).
  • Conducted at a London maternity unit, the study involved nulliparous women in active labor, where TPUS measurements were taken after DVE, allowing for comparisons between the two methods. The study incorporated repeated ultrasound assessments when possible.
  • Out of 206 women, complete data from 110 showed that 34% had no difference between TPUS and DVE measurements, while a mean difference of -0.9 cm was observed, indicating

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to compare the effectiveness and toxicity of two radiation techniques for treating locally advanced cervical cancer: traditional 3DCRT and advanced IG-IMRT, to lessen side effects while maintaining tumor control.
  • Conducted as a randomized trial, 173 patients were evaluated after being treated with external beam radiation and brachytherapy, with results showing IG-IMRT led to significantly reduced acute toxicities while maintaining similar tumor control rates to 3DCRT.
  • The findings suggest that using IG-IMRT with personalized margins might be a better option for minimizing treatment-related side effects in patients with locally advanced cervical carcinoma.
