Formative evaluation of multimedia programs can prevent costly and time-consuming revisions and result in more effective programs. Yet systematic formative evaluation is seldom conducted. This paper reviews the basic principles of formative evaluation and describes how we applied those principles to the formative evaluation of a multimedia program for patients about the side effects of cancer treatment. It discusses the challenges of developing multimedia programs for patients and provides guidance to other health professionals interested in developing programs on other topics.

Background: Low back pain (LBP) is highly prevalent and disabling, especially in agriculture sectors. However, there is a gap in LBP prevention and intervention studies in these physically demanding occupations, and to date, no studies have focused on horticulture workers. Given the challenges of implementing interventions for those working in small businesses, self-management offers an attractive and feasible option to address work-related risk factors and manage LBP.

Effective contraceptive education is essential to reducing unwanted pregnancy, increasing uptake of modern contraceptive methods, and thoughtfully planning desired births. New World Health Organization (WHO) and family planning organization guidelines recommend situating contraceptive education and counseling within a broader context of self-care that emphasizes individual agency and reproductive empowerment. Digital health interventions, and games for health specifically, have been validated as effective and scalable tools for self-guided and interactive health education, especially among younger tech-savvy individuals.

Background: Racial inequities in pregnancy outcomes persist despite investments in clinical, educational, and behavioral interventions, indicating that a new approach is needed to address the root causes of health disparities. Guaranteed income during pregnancy has the potential to narrow racial health inequities for birthing people and infants by alleviating financial stress.
Objective: We describe community-driven formative research to design the first pregnancy-guaranteed income program in the United States-the Abundant Birth Project (ABP).

Partial hospitalization programs (PHPs) are increasingly relied upon to provide intensive mental health treatment for youth with acute and severely impairing mental health symptoms, yet very few interventions have been adapted to fit this unique delivery context. Transdiagnostic treatments hold promise for addressing the complex clinical presentations and workflow needs of PHP programs, but more work is needed to understand factors that influence successful implementation. We conducted a formative implementation process evaluation to identify barriers and facilitators of acceptability, appropriateness, and feasibility of implementing an evidence-based transdiagnostic intervention in a PHP setting and further targets for intervention and implementation adaptation.

Background: Educators struggle to implement Interprofessional Education (IPE) in workplace settings. We adopted an educational design research (EDR) approach to implement an IPE activity and establish design principles supporting IPE implementation in workplace settings.
Method: We adopted an iterative process of analysis/exploration, design/construction and evaluation/reflection.
