Spin transport properties in a topological insulator sandwiched between two-dimensional magnetic layers.

Sci Rep

January 2025

Department of Applied Physics, School of Engineering Sciences, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, AlbaNova University Center, SE-10691, Stockholm, Sweden.

Non-trivial band topology along with magnetism leads to different novel quantum phases. When time-reversal symmetry is broken in three-dimensional topological insulators (TIs) through, e.g.

Acenes are an important class of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons that have gained considerable attention from chemists, physicists, and material scientists, due to their exceptional potential for organic electronics. They serve as an ideal platform for studying the physical and chemical properties of sp carbon frameworks in the one-dimensional limit and also provide a fertile playground to explore magnetism in graphenic nanostructures due to their zigzag edge topology. While higher acenes up to tridecacene have been successfully generated by means of on-surface synthesis, it is imperative to extend their synthesis toward even longer homologues to comprehensively understand the evolution of their electronic ground state.

Rapid and in-depth reconstruction of fluorine-doped bimetallic oxide in electrocatalytic oxygen evolution processes.

J Colloid Interface Sci

January 2025

Key Laboratory of Fine Chemicals of College of Heilongjiang Province, Qiqihar University, Qiqihar 161006, China; School of Materials Science and Engineering, Jiamusi University, Jiamusi 154007, China. Electronic address:

Most transition metal-based electrocatalysts, when used for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER), undergo significant restructuring under alkaline conditions, forming localized oxides/hydroxides (MOOH), which act as the real active centers, activating adjacent metal sites and creating new active sites that enhance electrocatalytic behavior. Nevertheless, inducing rapid and in-depth self-reconstruction of catalyst surfaces remains a huge challenge. Herein, this work achieves rapid and in-depth self-reconstruction by doping fluorine into the lattice of transition metal oxides (MO).

Beyond the Dailey-Townes Model: Chemical Information from the Electric Field Gradient.

J Phys Chem A

January 2025

Laboratoire de Chimie et Physique Quantique, UMR 5626 CNRS - Université Toulouse III-Paul Sabatier, 118 Route de Narbonne, F-31062 Toulouse, France.

In this work, we reexamine the Dailey-Townes model by systematically investigating the electric field gradient (EFG) in various chlorine compounds, dihalogens, and the uranyl ion (). Through the use of relativistic molecular calculations and projection analysis, we decompose the EFG expectation value in terms of atomic reference orbitals. We show how the Dailey-Townes model can be seen as an approximation to our projection analysis.

Magnetic semiconductors with spin-polarized non-metallic atoms are usually overlooked in applications because of their poor performances in magnetic moments and under critical temperatures. Herein, magnetic characteristics of 2D pentagon-based XN (X = B, Al, and Ga) are revealed based on first-principles calculations. It was proven that XN structures are antiferromagnetic semiconductors with bandgaps of 2.
