Erythema multiforme major (EMM) is an acute, immune-mediated mucocutaneous disease that rarely affects the genital mucosal surfaces. This study describes a 39-year-old male with this rare disease and unusual presentation. The patient presented to an emergency department with oral lesions, drainage from both eyes, injected sclera, and characteristic targetoid lesions on the face, upper extremities, torso, and plantar surfaces of the feet.

The global pandemic caused by COVID-19 led to numerous novel cases of autoimmune and rheumatologic disorders that developed postinfection. Along these lines, these authors report an unusual case of scleredema following SARS-CoV-2 infection in an individual who lacked any known risk factors. Given the emergence of newer mutant strains of COVID-19 and steadily rising numbers of people receiving COVID-19 vaccinations, physicians should remain alert for as yet unrecognized manifestations of the disease.

There has been considerable research on confusion and frustration that has treated them as two unitary constructs, distinct from each other. In this article, we argue that there is instead a constellation of different types of confusion and frustration, with different antecedents, manifestations, and impacts, and that the commonalities between many types of confusion and frustration justify thinking of them as part of the same constellation of affect, distinct from other prominent affective categories. We discuss how these types of affect have been considered historically and in key models.

Spin Chains with Highly Quantum Character through Strong Covalency in CaCrN.

Materials Department, University of California, Santa Barbara, Santa Barbara, California 93106, United States.

The insulating transition metal nitride CaCrN consists of sheets of triangular [CrN] units with symmetry that are connected via quasi-1D zigzag chains. Due to strong covalency between Cr and N, Cr ions are unusually low-spin, and = 1/2. Magnetic susceptibility measurements reveal dominant quasi-1D spin correlations with very large nearest-neighbor antiferromagnetic exchange = 340 K and yet no sign of magnetic order down to = 0.
