Drosophila melanogaster flies of strain D-32 were exposed aboard the Soyuz 10 spaceship. An insert with a nutritional medium and insects was placed in a small on-board thermostat (Biotherm II) providing a constant temperature (24 degrees C +/- 1 degree) for Drosophila development. The frequency of dominant lethals was determined in the females. Dominant, autosomal and sex-linked recessive lethals were estimated in hatching virgin males and females; the time of hatching was rigorously fixed. Sex-linked recessive lethals were related to certain stages of gametogenesis. The 1-5 oocyte stage showed an increased sensitivity to space-flight factors as regards the frequency of both dominant and recessive lethals.

Background: Since their domestication, recent inbreeding together with intensive artificial selection and population bottlenecks have allowed the prevalence of deleterious mutations and the increase of runs-of-homozygosity (ROH) in domestic pigs. This makes pigs a good model to understand the genetic underpinnings of inbreeding depression.
Results: Here we integrated a comprehensive dataset comprising 7239 domesticated pigs and wild boars genotyped by single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) chips, along with phenotypic data encompassing growth, reproduction and disease-associated traits.

Arthrogryposis multiplex congenita (AMC) is a heterogeneous disorder associated with 1/3000 to 1/5000 live births. We report a consanguineous family with multiple affected members with AMC and identified a recessive mutation in the highly conserved splice donor site, resulting in the mis-splicing of the affected exons. SENP7 is a deSUMOylase that is critical for sarcomere assembly and skeletal muscle contraction by regulating the transcriptional program in the skeletal muscle.

Courses of SARS-CoV-2 infections are highly variable, ranging from asymptomatic to lethal COVID-19. Though research has shown that host genetic factors contribute to this variability, cohort-based joint analyses of variants from the entire allelic spectrum in individuals with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infections are still lacking. Here, we present the results of whole genome sequencing in 1,220 mainly vaccine-naïve individuals with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection, including 827 hospitalized COVID-19 cases.
