Upon photochemical nitrogen extrusion, azoalkane 1b yields the diastereomeric housane products syn-2b (inversion) and anti-2b (retention), whose syn-to-anti isomerization (k(iso)) is observable already at room temperature. From the similar viscosity dependence of the k(inv)/k(ret) data for the photolysis of the azoalkane 1b and the k(iso) data for the thermolysis of the housane syn-2b, we conclude that these skeletal inversions are subject to frictional impediments and these determine the stereoselectivity.

An aryl radical assay is used to provide information about the formation of aryl radicals from aryl halides in coupling reactions to arenes in the presence of palladium sources and under LED irradiation (λ = 456 nm). The assay uses 2-halo--xylenes as substrates. Aryl radical formation is indicated both by a defined product composition and by signature deuterium isotope effects.

Organic photofunctional materials exhibit properties that are highly dependent on their structural hierarchy. The variability in intermolecular interactions and molecular packing in both monomeric and aggregated states complicates the controllability and predictability of their photophysical and photochemical properties. To address this challenge, we developed three luminescent supramolecular [2]daisy chains as simplified models.

Graphene oxide (GO) possesses specific properties that are revolutionizing materials science, with applications extending from flexible electronics to advanced nanotechnology. A key method for harnessing GO's potential is its laser-induced reduction, yet the exact mechanisms - photothermal versus photochemical effects - remain unclear. Herein, we discover the dominant role of photochemical reactions in the laser reduction of GO under visible light, challenging the prevailing assumption that photothermal effects are dominant.
