Objective: To compare: (1) the load and diversity of cultivatable bacterial species isolated from tissue biopsies with cultures from surface swabs, and (2) the ability of each technique to detect methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in a model of MRSA-infected equine wounds.
Study Design: Experimental in vivo study.
Animals: Three light-breed adult horses.

We report the case of a 38-year-old man with metastatic ductal eccrine adenocarcinoma (DEA) of the left breast responding to 5-flourouracil, epirubicin and cyclophosphamide (FEC) chemotherapy. He initially presented with a 2-week history of difficulty walking because of bilateral hip and lower back pain. Examination showed an ulcerating cutaneous mass over the left anterior chest wall, left axillary lymphadenopathy and tenderness over the spine.

A 5-week-old infant with mitral atresia and double-outlet right ventricle underwent blade atrial septostomy complicated by cardiac tamponade. Surgical septectomy was performed using a Brock punch aided by intraoperative transesophageal echocardiography. This was well tolerated, and the adequacy of the septectomy could be assessed immediately.

Rats that consume a diet 50% rich in protein exhibit hyperactivity and hyperresponsiveness to nociceptive stimuli, in which facilitation of dopaminergic activity has been implicated. We studied the regional changes in the concentrations of dopamine (DA) and its metabolites, dihydroxyphenylacetic acid (DOPAC) and homovanillic acid (HVA) in the brains of rats that were maintained on high-protein (HP, 50% casein), normal-protein (NP, 20% casein), and low-protein (LP, 8% casein) diets for 36 weeks. Brain nuclei that represented different DAergic systems were punch-dissected and analyzed using HPLC.
