Surveillance of hunting-associated injuries was performed over a 4-year period at a rural Emergency Department in central Wisconsin. Over that period of time, 125 individuals sought treatment for hunting-related injuries. The majority of injuries were related to autumn deer hunting and included both gun and bow and arrow hunting. Over half of the persons injured while hunting with a bow and arrow fell from a height. The admission rate for persons in the immediate area was 35.1%, but for those from outside the area, it was 64.8%. The effects of the referral bias result in severe injuries being seen in rural Emergency Departments during hunting seasons, necessitating such departments to be prepared for a wide range of injuries.

Maintaining yield goals while reducing nitrate-nitrogen (NO-N) leaching to groundwater is a challenge for potato (Solanum tuberosum) production in the Wisconsin Central Sands as well as across the United States. The objectives of this study were to quantify the effect of conventional and enhanced efficiency nitrogen (N) fertilizers on NO-N leaching, crop yield, and N uptake in potatoes. We compared five N treatments, which include a 0 N control and 280 kg ha as ammonium sulfate and ammonium nitrate (AS/AN), polymer-coated urea (PCU), urea with a urease inhibitor (Urea+UI), or urea with a UI and a nitrification inhibitor (Urea+UI+NI).

Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) and Electronic Muscle Stimulation (EMS) are non-invasive therapies widely used for pain relief and neuromuscular adaptation. However, the clinical research supporting the efficacy of TENS in chronic pain management is limited by significant methodological flaws, including small sample sizes and inconsistent reporting of stimulation parameters. TENS modulates pain perception through various techniques, targeting specific nerve fibers and pain pathways.

Nano-TiO as an antimicrobial inorganic material, can stimulate cells to produce reactive oxygen species and exhibit effective biochemical properties; however, phenylpyrazole derivatives, as organic pesticides, are widely used in agriculture and food. To find novel pesticides with environmental friendliness, combined with three-dimensional quantitative structure-activity relationship (3D-QSAR) prediction analysis, three types of alkaloidal phenylpyrazole amine derivatives (PA) were synthesized by a one-pot microwave method. Based on the dye sensitization strategy, four nano-organometallic pesticides (PT) were prepared by organic-inorganic hybridization.

Background: The optimal antibiotic regimen to empirically treat complicated diverticulitis has not been well established in guidelines.
Methods: A 5-year retrospective cohort study was conducted with 322 patients admitted to Mayo Clinic hospitals for complicated diverticulitis. Outcomes for 89 patients treated with ceftriaxone and metronidazole were compared to 233 patients treated with piperacillin/tazobactam.

Purpose: Describe aims, methods, characteristics of donors, donor corneas and recipients, and potential impact of the Diabetes Endothelial Keratoplasty Study (DEKS).
Methods: The DEKS is a randomized, clinical trial to assess graft success and endothelial cell density (ECD) 1 year after Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK) using corneas from donors with versus without diabetes in a 1:2 minimization assignment. Diabetes severity in the donor is assessed by medical history, postmortem HbA1c, and donor skin advanced glycation end-products and oxidation markers.
