Article Synopsis
  • A new External Quality Assessment Scheme (EQAS) was developed for clinical flow cytometry to help laboratories monitor their performance in diagnosing rare immunological diseases, specifically focusing on the primary immunodeficiency Orientation Tube (PIDOT).
  • The EQAS includes both 'wet' and 'dry' formats, allowing labs to compare their data to established benchmarks without needing to distribute physical samples.
  • Results from six EQAS rounds across 20 labs showed consistent technical performance and improved accuracy in identifying lymphoid abnormalities, highlighting the scheme's potential for enhancing diagnostics in rare diseases.

Background: To determine delta check limits for immunoglobulins and complements in outpatients and inpatients based on patient data and biological variation due to the lack of relevant studies.

Methods: Patient data for IgA, IgG, IgM, IgE, C3, and C4 from 1 January 2022 to 31 December 2023 was collected from laboratory information system (LIS) in our clinical laboratory of Wuhan Union Hospital, which includes both outpatients and inpatients. The delta difference (DD), delta percent change (DPC), and reference change value (RCV) were calculated based on patient data and biological variation.

Diurnal and day-to-day biological variation of salivary cortisol and cortisone.

Clin Chem Lab Med

October 2024

Section of Clinical Biochemistry, Department of Engineering for Innovation Medicine, 19051 University of Verona, Verona, Italy.

Objectives: There is a growing interest in the relevance of salivary cortisol and cortisone concentrations in stress-related research. To correctly attribute the magnitude of salivary cortisol and cortisone variation as an effect of a stressful event, a coherent understanding of the day-to-day intra-individual and inter-individual variability across the diurnal cycle of the two steroids is required. However, such information is currently lacking.
