A method for recording digital holograms on an image intensifier coupled with a CCD sensor is presented. The advantage of the image intensifier is that it can be gated (electronic shutter action produced by controlling of the image intensifier's photocathode voltage). This allows us to record holograms with a short exposure time. Two holograms of an object submitted to dynamical displacements (e.g., vibrations) are recorded by two short exposures. The phase of the wave front recorded at different times is calculated from the recorded intensity by use of a digital Fourier-transform method. By comparison of the phases recorded it is possible to get the displacement of the object during a short interval. Experimental results are presented, and the problems related to the noise and to the spatial resolution are discussed.

Periodic Light Modulations for Low-Cost Wide-Field Imaging of Luminescence Kinetics Under Ambient Light.

Imaging luminescence kinetics is invaluable in many fields, including biology and chemistry. However, the luminescence lifetime of most photo-activated states is in the low ns-µs range and its measurement requires adding costly image intensifiers to cameras to access the fast phenomena present. Here, the Rectified Imaging under Optical Modulation (RIOM) and Heterodyne Imaging under Optical Modulation (HIOM) protocols make this possible with standard low-cost cameras only, even under ambient light.

Adequate intraoperative visualization is mandatory for implant application in pelvic ring injuries. Several fluoroscopic X-ray views are in practical use. The gold standard primary X-ray is the anteroposterior view of the pelvis.

The purpose of this study was to establish typical dose values at orthopaedic operating rooms of the Larnaca General Hospital (LGH). Kerma area product (KAP), fluoroscopy time (FT) and cumulative air-kerma (K) measurements were collected for 821 patients who underwent common and reproducible trauma surgery over a five-year period, with three mobile C-arm systems; two equipped with an image-intensifier and one with a flat-panel detector. Dose indices were automatically extracted from radiation dose structured reports or DICOM meta-data files archived in the PACS, using custom-made software.

Purpose: The purpose of this work was to establish national Irish diagnostic reference levels (DRLs) for a clinically representative and comprehensive list of clinical indications, anatomical regions, and common procedures for fluoroscopy and fluoroscopically guided interventions and compare these, where possible, to other DRLs established at a national level.

Method: A list of clinical indications, anatomical regions and common procedures was established. A national database of service providers was used to identify all medical radiological facilities providing fluoroscopy and fluoroscopically guided intervention services.

The standard treatment for displaced pediatric supracondylar fracture of humer us (PSCFH) is closed reduction and percutaneous pinning under image intensifier guidance. This technical note describes Kapandji intrafocal pinning technique (KIPT) for achieving optimal fracture reduction and stable fixation in Gartland Type III or IV extension type PSCFH. In KIPT, a K wire was introduced into the fracture site from the posterior aspect, fracture manipulation was done by levering with wire reducing the posterior displacement of the distal fragment and the wire was fixed to the anterior cortex of the proximal fragment.
