Background: The ability of the size of a total myocardial perfusion defect (MPD) to detect extensive coronary artery disease (CAD) is currently suboptimal with exercise thallium 201 single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT). To improve its performance, exercise electrocardiography and indirect scintigraphic markers of extensive CAD were proposed (increased right ventricular Tl-201 uptake, lung-to-heart [L/H] ratio, and left ventricular transient ischemic dilation ratio). We aimed to determine the additive value of these criteria for the detection of extensive CAD.

Methods And Results: The population included 338 patients who underwent exercise Tl-201 SPECT and coronary angiography. Patients were classified as having extensive CAD (left main, multivessel, or 1-vessel proximal left anterior descending CAD) or limited CAD (1-vessel disease other than proximal left anterior descending CAD or no CAD). First, Tl-201 SPECT provided higher diagnostic value than exercise electrocardiography. Second, age, percent target heart rate achieved, total MPD, and L/H ratio were independent predictors of extensive CAD. Third, visually estimated abnormal right ventricular Tl-201 uptake did not present additional information. Fourth, L/H ratio presented a higher diagnostic accuracy than left ventricular transient ischemic dilation ratio.

Conclusions: With exercise Tl-201 SPECT, age, percent target heart rate achieved, total MPD, and L/H ratio were independent predictors of extensive CAD.

Purpose: This study aims to evaluate the performance of dual-energy window (DEW) and triple-energy window (TEW) scatter correction methods in cardiac SPECT imaging with technetium-99m (Tc-99m) and thallium-201 (Tl-201) radioisotopes.

Materials And Methods: The SIMIND Monte Carlo program was used to simulate the imaging system and produce the required projections. Two phantoms, including the simple cardiac phantom and the NCAT phantom, were used to evaluate the scatter correction methods.

Purpose: We aimed to develop deep learning (DL)-based attenuation correction models for Tl-201 myocardial perfusion SPECT (MPS) images and evaluate their clinical feasibility.

Patients And Methods: We conducted a retrospective study of patients with suspected or known coronary artery disease. We proposed a DL-based image-to-image translation technique to transform non-attenuation-corrected images into CT-based attenuation-corrected (CT AC ) images.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study focused on integrating radiation dose measurements and myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) to analyze heart effects in breast cancer patients after radiation therapy.
  • - It found that women with left-sided breast cancer received a higher radiation dose to the heart compared to those with right-sided breast cancer, which led to significant differences in heart tissue exposure.
  • - Findings also indicated reduced wall motion and thickening in the heart's subregions for both groups, emphasizing the need for further research on how radiation affects heart function in breast cancer patients.

Stress-induced myocardial perfusion defects found in dipyridamole-thallium-201 single-photon emission computed tomography imaging may indicate vascular perfusion abnormalities and risk of obstructive or nonobstructive coronary heart disease. Besides nuclear imaging and subsequent coronary angiography (CAG), no blood test can indicate whether dysregulated homeostasis is associated with stress-induced myocardial perfusion defects. This study investigated the expression signature of long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) and genes involved in vascular inflammation and stress response in the blood of patients with stress-induced myocardial perfusion abnormalities ( = 27).

Backgrounds: The lung-to-heart ratio (L/H ratio) in myocardial perfusion scintigraphy (MPS) is a useful marker that complements the sensitivity of ischemia detection. However, it requires planar imaging acquired following a separate protocol in addition to single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT). We developed a novel method for constructing virtual planar image (VPI) from SPECT data.
