Erythrocytes are typically present as impurities in the majority of peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) preparations. This study was undertaken to investigate the effects of contaminating red blood cells (RBC) on the ability of OKT3 to activate CD4(+) and CD8(+) T cells. Surprisingly, the levels of gamma interferon, tumor necrosis factor alpha, and interleukin-1 beta (IL-1 beta) produced by PBMC upon stimulation by OKT3 were increased (P < 0.05) in a dose-dependent manner when increasing amounts of autologous RBC (RBC-to-PBMC ratios of 2:1, 10:1, and 50:1) were spiked into PBMC preparations. The OKT3-driven induction of the IL-2 receptor (CD25) and the proliferation of T lymphocytes in response to phorbol myristate acetate were not affected by the addition of RBC.

This research highlights a sustainable approach for the design and synthesis of a magnetic nickel ferrite (NiFeO) catalyst reutilizing industrial waste, specifically iron ore tailing and Raney nickel catalyst processing waste, by simple co-precipitation method. Transforming waste materials into high-performance catalysts, this study aligns with the principles of a circular economy, addressing both environmental waste and pollution. Structural characterization by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and microscopic (FESEM and TEM) revealed the formation of well crystalline nano ferrite with NiFeO nanoparticles with cubic spinel structure.

Sharm El-Sheikh, located at the southern entrance of the Gulf of Aqaba, is a key tourist destination known for its mild climate and commitment to environmental initiatives, notably hosting COP27 in 2022. This study evaluates heavy metal contamination in beach sediments to assess environmental and human risks. Sampling was conducted at Sharm Port and El-Maya Bay, both popular tourist areas.

The extracellular vesicle release in red blood cell concentrates reflects progressive accumulation of storage lesions and could represent a new measure to be implemented routinely in blood centres in addition to haemolysis. Nevertheless, there is currently no standardized isolation protocol. In a previous publication, we developed a reproducible ultracentrifugation-based protocol (20,000 × protocol) that allows to classify red blood cell concentrates into three cohorts according to their vesiculation level.
