Photodynamic therapy is an effective palliative treatment of esophageal cancer. Minor complications associated with this therapy include pleural effusions, fever or esophageal strictures. In addition to this major complications such as respiratory-esophageal fistula and bronchus perforation have been described. We report here our experience with a patient who developed a complete esophageal necrosis and perforation of the left main bronchus following photodynamic therapy. The surgical and intensive care management of the patient is described and the literature discussed.

This study reviews the diagnostic criteria and treatment strategies for spinal malignant gliomas, particularly glioblastoma with -wildtype and diffuse midline gliomas with H3-K27 alteration, according to the World Health Organization 2021 classification. Surgical resection remains challenging owing to the diffuse nature of these tumors. Even with the Stupp regimen(temozolomide and radiotherapy), the prognosis remains poor, with an average survival of 12 months.

Activating the cGAS-STING pathway presents a promising strategy to enhance the innate immunity and combat the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment. One key mechanism for triggering this pathway involves the release of damaged DNA fragments caused by nuclear DNA damage. However, conventional cGAS-STING agonists often suffer from limited nucleus-targeting efficiency and potential biotoxicity.

Composite nanozymes are composed of enzymes with similar or different catalytic capabilities and have higher catalytic activity than a single enzyme. In recent years, composite nanozymes have emerged as novel nanomaterial platforms for multiple applications in various research fields, where they are used to produce oxygen, consume glutathione, or produce toxic reactive oxygen species (ROS) for cancer therapy. The therapeutic approach using composite nanozymes is known as chemo-dynamic therapy (CDT).

The morbidity of oral disorders, including gingivitis, caries, endodontic-periodontal diseases, and oral cancer, is relatively high globally. Pathogenic cells are the root cause of many oral disorders, and oral therapies depend on eradicating them. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) has been established as a potential and non-invasive local adjuvant treatment for oral disorders.

This study is the first to use photodynamic therapy (PDT) mediated by curcumin and blue light for the treatment of recurrent herpes labialis. According to our study, PDT effectively accelerated lesion healing and reduced its recurrence. PDT may represent a promising, safe, and cost-effective treatment option for this challenging disease.
