Aim: To evaluate the effects of four glaucoma medications on the cardio-respiratory system.
Method: All newly diagnosed glaucoma (primary open-angle glaucoma--POAG--or normal tension glaucoma) patients were recruited into a 12-month prospective audit.
Results: The study has resulted in glaucoma patients having a spirometry lung function test before being prescribed beta-blocker eye drops. The results of this study demonstrate a high level of both systemic and ocular side-effects caused by these topical glaucoma medications.
Conclusion: This study confirms the findings of previous studies, which have shown topical beta-blockers to be harmful to older people with glaucoma and 'hidden' reversible airways disease. It also shows the consequences of using topical beta-blockers on patients who have previously undiagnosed respiratory and cardiac disease.

Background: The long-term patterns in first-line glaucoma medication are not well established. Exploring these in longitudinal and population-based settings would provide information for the healthcare systems to plan glaucoma care accordingly.
Objective: To evaluate patterns in first-line glaucoma monotherapy in Finland during 1995-2019 based on nationwide survey and register data.

Unlabelled: Numerous studies have shown that topical timolol is effective in treating infantile hemangioma (IH) with minimal adverse events. However, consensus is lacking on optimal timing, dosage, frequency, and safety parameters for this treatment. This study aims to explore the timing and safety of topical timolol treatment for superficial IH.

Several studies in rabbits demonstrated the efficacy and safety of topical losartan, an angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARB) that modulates the TGF-β intracellular signaling pathways by inhibiting the activation of Extracellular Signal-regulated Kinase (ERK), in preventing or treating stromal fibrosis after a range of injuries such as Descemetorhexis, alkali burns, incisions, and photorefractive keratectomy (PRK). Several case reports have shown that topical losartan treatment is also efficacious and safe in humans to prevent or treat stromal fibrosis after many different injuries or diseases. Topical losartan penetrates the full thickness of the cornea and, therefore, can treat both anterior and posterior stromal fibrosis.

Hypertension affects 32% of adults worldwide, leading to a significant global consumption of cardiovascular medications. Atenolol, a β-adrenergic receptor blocker, is widely prescribed for cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension, angina pectoris, and myocardial infarction. According to the Biopharmaceutics Classification System (BCS), atenolol belongs to Class III, characterized by high solubility but low permeability.

Bacterial biofilms represent a formidable challenge in the treatment of chronic wounds, largely because of their resistance to conventional antibiotics. The emergence of multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacterial strains exacerbates this issue, necessitating a shift towards exploring alternative therapeutic approaches. In response to this urgent need, there has been a surge in research efforts aimed at identifying effective non-antibiotic treatments.
