Specification of norms is the most radical protective means in a system of activities reducing harmful influence on human health. For effective work of norms, the authors specified hygienic classification covering industrial sources of infrared radiation. The classification is based on biologic effect peculiarities depending on maximal energy in the radiation spectrum. Requirements to measuring devices and measurement procedures were specified as well. Nowdays production of sensitive devices measuring the spectrum energy is launched in Ukraine, so it is time to put the novelties into practice.

Effects of photobiomodulation in mitochondrial quantity, biogenesis and mitophagy-associated genes in breast cancer cells.

Lasers Med Sci

January 2025

Departamento de Biofísica e Biometria Instituto de Biologia Roberto Alcântara Gomes, Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro, Avenida 28 de Setembro, 87, fundos, Vila Isabel, Rio de Janeiro, 20551030, Brazil.

In this article, we aim to evaluate the effects of photobiomodulation on mitochondria quantity, biogenesis, and mitophagy-associated genes in breast cancer (BC) cells. Both models were irradiated with a low-power infrared laser (880 nm, 150 mW) and amber LED (617 nm, 1500 mW), alone or simultaneously. We evaluated the mRNA expression of PINK1 and PGC-1α genes, and the mitochondrial number was assessed based on the ratio of mitochondrial DNA/genomic DNA (mtDNA/gDNA).

Cloud radiative effect dominates variabilities of surface energy budget in the dark Arctic.

Sci Rep

January 2025

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Livermore, CA, USA.

Climate models simulate a wide range of temperatures in the Arctic. Here we investigate one of the main drivers of changes in surface temperature: the net surface heat flux in the models. We show that in the winter months of the dark Arctic, there is a more than two-fold difference in the net surface heat fluxes among the models, and this difference is dominated by the downward infrared radiation from clouds.

Thiophene engineering of near-infrared D-π-A nano-photosensitizers for enhanced multiple phototheranostics and inhibition of tumor metastasis.

Phototherapy including photothermal therapy (PTT) and photodynamic therapy (PDT) is widely used for cancer treatment because of its non-invasiveness, spatiotemporal controllability, and low side effects. However, the PTT and PDT capabilities of photosensitizers (PSs) compete so it's still a crucial challenge to simultaneously enhance the PDT and PTT capabilities of PSs. In this work, donor-π-acceptor (D-π-A)-based boron dipyrromethene (BODIPY) dyes were developed via molecular engineering and applied for enhanced phototherapy of triple-negative breast cancer.

This brief report aimed to investigate the optical absorbance spectra of normal, dysplastic, and malignant epithelial cell lines under normal and nutritional stress conditions. HaCAT (keratinocyte), DOK (oral dysplastic), and oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) cell lines (CA1, Luc4, SCC9) were evaluated regarding their optical absorbance after culture with 0-10% fetal bovine serum. Absorbance measurements indicated that HaCAT under serum starvation exhibited higher absorbance at blue (430 nm) and near-infrared (906 nm) wavelengths.

Mid-infrared thermal radiation has attracted attention due to its wide range of applications. Compared to the static process of thermal emission, if thermal radiation can be dynamically controlled, it would be more suitable for practical applications. Herein, we designed a controllable thermal emitter based on phase change materials.
