The radiological work-up of joint injuries in young children can be very tedious due to the absent ossification of secondary ossification centers, which cannot be seen directly on plain X-ray images in this age group. Cartilaginous joint structures therefore cannot be distinguished from joint gaps using X-ray images in young children. High-resolution ultrasound scanning probes facilitate ultrasound studies of cartilaginous joint structures and growth plates in young children, thus providing a new and rewarding option for imaging of traumatic alterations of growing joints, especially in children whose secondary ossification centers have not yet undergone calcification processes. The use of ultrasound for evaluation of joint injuries avoids the shortcomings of ionizing radiation, contralateral joints can be examined for comparison, and functional dynamic studies can be obtained easily.

Objective: Evaluate Department of Defense (DoD) antimicrobial stewardship programs (ASPs) by assessing the relationship between key clinical outcome metrics (antibiotic use, incidence of resistant pathogens, and incidence of infections) and CDC Core Element (CE) adherence.
Design: Retrospective, cross-sectional study of DoD hospitals in 2018 and 2021.
Methods: National Healthcare Safety Network Standardized Antimicrobial Administration Ratios (SAARs) were used to measure antibiotic use and microbiology results to evaluate four types of pathogen incidence.

Introduction: Osteosarcoma, a highly aggressive bone cancer primarily affecting children and young adults, remains a significant challenge in clinical oncology. Metastasis stands as the primary cause of mortality in osteosarcoma patients. However, the mechanisms driving this process remain incompletely understood.

Aims: To examine the risk of perinatal mental illness, including new diagnoses and recurrent use of mental healthcare, comparing women with and without traumatic brain injury (TBI), and to identify injury-related factors associated with these outcomes among women with TBI.
Methods: We conducted a population-based cohort study in Ontario, Canada, of all obstetrical deliveries to women in 2012-2021, excluding those with mental healthcare use in the year before conception. The cohort was stratified into women with no remote mental illness history (to identify new mental illness diagnoses between conception and 365 days postpartum) and those with a remote mental illness history (to identify recurrent illnesses).

Introduction: This ecologic study explores the relationship between the Social Vulnerability Index (SVI) and probable asthma-related emergency medical service (EMS) rates before and during the COVID-19 pandemic at the county level in Illinois.
Methods: The number of asthma-related EMS visits was obtained in all 102 counties for adults aged 18 years or more, and for 82 of these counties for children aged less than 18 from 2018 to 2021. They were converted into rates and examined in relation to SVI rankings.

Background: Pediatric dentists employ both pharmacological and non-pharmacological behavior control methods. Despite the use of behavioral control techniques, some young children cannot undergo treatment in the office, making sedation or general anesthesia necessary. Premedication drugs can be used before general anesthesia to reduce anxiety, control pain, induce amnesia, prevent nausea, and avert potential complications.
