Unlabelled: The echo-enhanced Power-Doppler sonography is useful for the differential diagnosis of pancreatic tumours. Tumour criteria for the differentiation of pancreatic tumours with this procedure are explained using selected cases in the present publication. Ductal carcinomas are often hypovascularised compared with the surrounding tissue. On the other hand, neuroendocrine tumours are hypervascularised lesions. Tumours associated with pancreatitis have a different vascularisation pattern depending on inflammation and necrosis. Cystadenomas frequently show many vessels along the fibrotic strands.

Conclusions: Pancreatic tumours have different vascularisation patterns in the echo-enhanced Power-Doppler sonography. These characteristics can be used for the differential diagnosis.

Introduction: Prostate cancer (PCa) is the commonest urologic cancer worldwide and the leading cause of male cancer deaths in Nigeria. In Nigeria, orchidectomy remains the primary androgen deprivation therapy. Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is the active prostatic androgen, but its relationship with PCa severity has not been extensively studied in Africa.

Genetic association of lipid-lowering drug target genes with pancreatic cancer: a Mendelian randomization study.

Sci Rep

January 2025

Division of Pancreatic Surgery, Department of General Surgery, Qilu Hospital, Shandong University, Jinan, 250012, China.

Previous studies have found that dyslipidemia is a risk factor for pancreatic cancer (PC), and that lipid-lowering drugs may reduce the risk of PC. However, it is not clear whether dyslipidemia causes PC. The Mendelian randomization (MR) study aimed to investigate the causal role of lipid traits in pancreatic cancer and to assess the potential impact of lipid-lowering drug targets on pancreatic cancer.

Novel Surgical Initiatives in Gastroenteropancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumours.

Curr Oncol Rep

January 2025

Department of General, Visceral and Thoracic Surgery, University Medical Center Hamburg- Eppendorf, Martinistraße 52, D-20246, Hamburg, Germany.

Purpose Of Review: Neuroendocrine tumours (NET) are rare entities arising from hormone producing cells in the gastroentero-pancreatic (GEP) tract. Surgery is the most common treatment of GEP-NETs.

Recent Findings: Improvements in surgical techniques allow for more locally advanced and metastasised GEP-NETs to be resected.

Purpose: To evaluate the measurement of main pancreatic duct (MPD) diameter on MRI for predicting MPD involvement in intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (IPMN).

Methods: This retrospective study included 595 patients with surgically confirmed IPMN who underwent preoperative MRI from 2015 to 2022. Three independent readers measured the maximum MPD diameter on two-dimensional axial and coronal T2-weighted imaging.
