Resonant Emittance Mixing of Flat Beams in Plasma Accelerators.

Phys Rev Lett

December 2024

Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron DESY, Notkestrasse 85, 22607 Hamburg, Germany.

Linear colliders rely on high-quality flat beams to achieve the desired event rate while avoiding potentially deleterious beamstrahlung effects. Here, we show that flat beams in plasma accelerators can be subject to quality degradation due to emittance mixing. This effect occurs when the beam particles' betatron oscillations in a nonlinearly coupled wakefield become resonant in the horizontal and vertical planes.

Causal associations between immune cells and psychiatric disorders: a bidirectional mendelian randomization analysis.

Graduate School of PLA Medical College, Chinese PLA General Hospital and PLA Medical College, 28 Fu Xing Road, Beijing, 100083, China.

Extensive researches illuminate a potential interplay between immune traits and psychiatric disorders. However, whether there is the causal relationship between the two remains an unresolved question. We conducted a two-sample bidirectional mendelian randomization by utilizing summary data of 731 immune cell traits from genome-wide association studies (GCST90001391-GCST90002121)) and 11 psychiatric disorders including attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), anxiety disorder, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), bipolar disorder (BIP), anorexia nervosa (AN), major depressive disorder (MDD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), Tourette syndrome (TS), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), schizophrenia (SCZ), and substance use disorders (cannabis) (SUD) from the Psychiatric Genomics Consortium (PGC).

Objective: We aimed to investigate the effect of adding "rapid decelerations" and "vibrations" during a SemontPLUS maneuver on the dynamics of the inner ear and the success rate of canalolithiasis repositioning.

Methods: We used a previously described upscaled (5×) in vitro model of the posterior semicircular canal of the inner ear to analyze the trajectory of a single and clumped surrogate otolith particle (metallic sphere) during a SemontPLUS maneuver (-60 degrees below earth horizontal) on a repositioning chair (TRV). We compared the angular displacement of these particles with and without the application of "vibrations" or "rapid decelerations" using TRV.

A numerical assessment of the heterogeneous effects of innovative shroud profiles for horizontal axis wind turbine.

Heliyon

January 2025

Mechanical Power Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering - Mataria, Helwan University, Cairo, 11718, Egypt.

Wind turbine control is critical in power generation from wind, thus assuring great efficiency and cost-effectiveness. This has been a subject of intense research, and its advancements are critical to developing even better and efficient wind turbines. This research looks at several passive flow control mechanisms for horizontal wind turbines.

Objective: To determine whether the position of the bolster affects the access tract (supracostal/infracostal) for a superior calyceal puncture during prone PCNL and its effect on pleural complications.

Materials And Methods: It was a randomized clinical trial. Patients in whom superior calyceal puncture was done were divided into two groups by systematic sampling method, group 1 (horizontal bolster) and group 2 (vertical bolster), 50 patients in each group.
