Introduction: The clinical manifestations of acute severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus type 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection and coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) suggest a dysregulation of the host immune response that leads to inflammation, thrombosis, and organ dysfunction. It is less clear whether these dysregulated processes persist during the convalescent phase of disease or during long COVID. We sought to examine the effects of SARS-CoV-2 infection on the proportions of classical, intermediate, and nonclassical monocytes, their activation status, and their functional properties in convalescent COVID-19 patients.

The target article focuses on evidence from nonlinguistic faculties to defend the claim that cognition generally traffics in language-of-thought (LoT)-type representations. This focus creates needed space to discuss the mounting accumulation of nonclassical evidence for LoT, but it also misses relevant work in linguistics that directly offers a perspective on specific hypotheses about candidate LoT representations.

In this issue of Structure, Gonzalez et al. present the cryo-EM structure of Karyopherin-β2 bound to the proline-tyrosine nuclear localization signal (PY-NLS) of heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein H2 (HNRNPH2). The structure advances our understanding of not only the diversity of PY-NLSs but also the pathogenic mechanisms arising from HNRNPH2 variants.

Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is an autoimmune disease characterized by fibrosis, microangiopathy, and autoantibodies. We previously reported that circulating follicular helper T (cTfh) cells are increased in SSc and induce plasmablast differentiation. However, mechanisms leading to cTfh cell expansion and activation in SSc remain to be established.
