Experiments with fast folding proteins are beginning to address the relationship between collapse and folding. We investigate how different scenarios for folding can arise depending on whether the folding and collapse transitions are concurrent or whether a nonspecific collapse precedes folding. Many earlier studies have focused on the limit in which collapse is fast compared to the folding time; in this work we focus on the opposite limit where, at the folding temperature, collapse and folding occur simultaneously. Real proteins exist in both of these limits. The folding mechanism varies substantially in these two regimes. In the regime of concurrent folding and collapse, nonspecific collapse now occurs at a temperature below the folding temperature (but slightly above the glass transition temperature).

Expiratory central airway collapse is a degenerative tracheobronchial disease that is often overlooked because of its nonspecific clinical features. A man was admitted for evaluation of tracheal nodules. Following bronchoscopic biopsy, a significant increase in airway pressure occurred during anesthesia recovery.

Avascular necrosis (AVN) of the hip, a rare cause of pelvic pain in the third trimester of pregnancy, often presents with nonspecific symptoms that resemble common musculoskeletal conditions. This ambiguity, coupled with concerns about the safety of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) during pregnancy, can hinder timely diagnosis. We report a unique case of a 32-year-old primigravida diagnosed with a hip fracture and bilateral AVN of the femoral head in the immediate postpartum period, a complication seemingly not previously documented in pregnant patients.

Unlabelled: This study aimed to evaluate pathological findings on abdominal ultrasonography upon admission of children diagnosed with Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MIS-C) that were associated with a more severe disease course and the need for intensive care unit (ICU) admission. This retrospective and observational study was conducted between March 2020 and May 2022. Abdominal ultrasonography findings were evaluated in children diagnosed with MIS-C associated with SARS-CoV-2.

Autoimmune inner ear disease (AIED) is a rare condition characterized by immune-mediated damage to the inner ear, leading to progressive sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) and vestibular symptoms such as vertigo and tinnitus. This study investigates the pathogenesis and therapeutic strategies for AIED through the analysis of three cases with different underlying autoimmune disorders: rheumatoid arthritis, relapsing polychondritis, and IgG4-related disease. The etiology of AIED involves complex immunopathological mechanisms, including molecular mimicry and the "bystander effect," with specific autoantibodies, such as those against heat shock protein 70 (HSP70), playing a potential role in cochlear damage.

Adrenal insufficiency (AI) is a life-threatening disorder. Defects at any level of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis can impair adrenal function. It is difficult to make a diagnosis of AI in the newborn because during the neonatal period clinical findings are not specific and range from insidious, nonspecific complaints to circulatorycollapse due to hypovolemic shock.
