Collagen/polyvinyl alcohol scaffolds combined with platelet-rich plasma to enhance anterior cruciate ligament repair.

In anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) repair methods, the continuous enzymatic erosion of synovial fluid can impede healing and potentially lead to repair failure, as well as exacerbate articular cartilage wear, resulting in joint degeneration. Inspired by the blood clot during medial collateral ligament healing, we developed a composite scaffold comprising collagen (1 %, w/v) and polyvinyl alcohol (5 %, w/v) combined with platelet-rich plasma (PRP). The composite scaffold provides a protective barrier against synovial erosion for the ruptured ACL, while simultaneously facilitating tissue repair, thereby enhancing the efficacy of ACL repair techniques.

Probiotics effectively alleviate host diarrhoea, but the specific mechanism is not clear. Therefore, we explored the protective mechanism of Bacillus coagulans (BC) on intestinal barrier injury induced by Klebsiella pneumoniae (K. pneumoniae) in rabbits by HE, immunofluorescence and 16S rRNA.

Background: For patients with osteoporosis and rotator cuff tears, there is still no consensus on current treatment methods. The material, structure, and number of anchors have important effects on the repair outcome.

Purpose: To investigate the use of chitosan quaternary ammonium salt-coated nickel-titanium memory alloy (NTMA) anchors to treat rotator cuff injury in shoulders with osteoporosis in a rabbit osteoporosis model.

Biodegradable PHBVHHx-PEG/Collagen Hydrogel Scaffolds for Cartilage Repair.

Tissue Eng Part A

January 2025

Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Orthopedic Research Institute, Sports Medicine Center, West China Hospital, Sichuan University, Chengdu, China.

Recently, there has been increased attention on the treatment of cartilage repair. Overall, we constructed PHBVHHx-COL, a composite hydrogel of PHBVHHx-co-PEG and collagen, and evaluated its cartilage repair efficacy through and studies using hydrogel loaded with peripheral blood-derived mesenchymal stem cells (PBMSCs). Rheological properties and compressive mechanical properties of the hydrogels were systematically evaluated.

True-bone-ceramics / type I collagen scaffolds for repairing osteochondral defect.

J Mater Sci Mater Med

December 2024

Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, The First Hospital of Jilin University, Changchun, 130021, China.

In recent years, the incidence of cartilage defects has increased dramatically, and its etiology is complex and varied. Osteochondritis dissecans (OCD), as one of the main etiologies, damages both cartilage and bone tissues and can progress to severe osteoarthritis, which has been one of the difficult problems for clinicians. The vigorous development of material science and tissue engineering provides new ideas for the treatment of OCD, in which the selection of scaffold materials is particularly important.
