LIPUS promotes osteogenic differentiation of rat BMSCs and osseointegration of dental implants by regulating ITGA11 and focal adhesion pathway.

BMC Oral Health

January 2025

Beijing Institute of Dental Research, Beijing Stomatological Hospital, School of Stomatology, Capital Medical University, Beijing, China.

Background: Low-intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS) has been used as an effective noninvasive method for treating fractures and osteoarthrosis, but the application in the field of oral implantation is in its infancy. This study aimed to clarify the effect and mechanism of LIPUS on the osteogenic differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) and implant osseointegration, and to provide an experimental basis for future clinical applications.

Methods: Dental implants were inserted into Wistar rat femurs, and LIPUS was performed for 4 weeks.

Examining structure-activity relationships of ManNAc analogs used in the metabolic glycoengineering of human neural stem cells.

Biomater Adv

December 2024

Department of Biomedical Engineering, Whiting School of Engineering, The Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD, USA; Translational Tissue Engineering Center, Whiting School of Engineering, Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Baltimore, MD, USA. Electronic address:

This study defines biochemical mechanisms that contribute to novel neural-regenerative activities we recently demonstrated for thiol-modified ManNAc analogs in human neural stem cells (hNSCs) by comparing our lead drug candidate for brain repair, "TProp," to a "size-matched" N-alkyl control analog, "But." These analogs biosynthetically install non-natural sialic acids into cell surface glycans, altering cell surface receptor activity and adhesive properties of cells. In this study, TProp modulated sialic acid-related biology in hNSCs to promote neuronal differentiation through modulation of cell adhesion molecules (integrins α6, β1, E-cadherin, and PSGL-1) and stem cell markers.

Background: Down syndrome (DS) is strongly associated with Alzheimer's disease (AD), attributable to APP overexpression, displaying common features with early-onset AD (EOAD) and late-onset AD (LOAD) like Amyloid-β (Aβ) and tau pathology. Here, we evaluated the Aβ plaques proteome of DS, EOAD and LOAD.

Method: We used unbiased localized proteomics to analyze amyloid plaques and the adjacent plaque-devoid tissue ('AD non-plaque') from post-mortem paraffin-embedded tissues in three subtypes of AD (n = 20/group): DS (59.

Papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) is often characterized by indolent behavior, small tumors with slow cell proliferation and a tendency to metastasize to cervical lymph node simultaneously, and the molecular mechanisms underlying that remain poorly understood. In this study, FN1 was the hottest gene of PTC and distinctive expression in PTC cells. FN1 deficiency severely inhibited the p53 signaling pathway, especially cyclin proteins, resulting in increased cell growth but hampered invasion.

[Analysis of Genes Related to Platelet Activation in Essential Thrombocythemia Based on Transcriptomics].

Zhongguo Shi Yan Xue Ye Xue Za Zhi

December 2024

Department of Hematology, Xiyuan Hospital, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, Beijing 100091, China.

Objective: To analyze the genes related to platelet activation in essential thrombocythemia (ET) based on transcriptome sequencing technology (RNA-seq), and to explore the potential targets related to ET thrombosis.

Methods: Blood samples from ET patients and healthy individuals were collected for RNA-seq, and differentially expressed lncRNAs, miRNAs, and mRNAs were selected to construct a lncRNA-miRNA-mRNA regulatory network. Differential mRNAs in the regulatory network were enriched and analyzed using Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG).
