Glow Discharge Optical Emission Coded Aperture Spectroscopy.

Anal Chem

January 2025

Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Texas Tech University, Lubbock, Texas 79409-41061, United States.

Glow discharge optical emission spectrometry (GDOES) allows fast and simultaneous multielemental analysis directly from solids and depth profiling down to the nanometer scale, which is critical for thin-film (TF) characterization. Nevertheless, operating conditions for the best limits of detection (LODs) are compromised in lieu of the best sputtering crater shapes for depth resolution. In addition, the fast transient signals from ultra-TFs do not permit the optimal sampling statistics of bulk analysis such that LODs are further compromised.

Background: Different parotid tumors differ in terms of treatment strategies due to their distinct biological behaviors. Time-dependent diffusion magnetic resonance imaging (t-dMRI) can characterize and quantify the cytological indexes, and then aid the differential diagnosis of various tumors. However, the value of t-dMRI in the analysis of parotid gland tumors remains unclear.

Machine learning classification and biochemical characteristics in the real-time diagnosis of gastric adenocarcinoma using Raman spectroscopy.

Sci Rep

January 2025

Department of Internal Medicine and Liver Research Institute, Department of Medical Device Development, Seoul National University Hospital, Seoul National University College of Medicine, Seoul, Korea.

This study aimed to identify biomolecular differences between benign gastric tissues (gastritis/intestinal metaplasia) and gastric adenocarcinoma and to evaluate the diagnostic power of Raman spectroscopy-based machine learning in gastric adenocarcinoma. Raman spectroscopy-based machine learning was applied in real-time during endoscopy in 19 patients (aged 51-85 years) with high-risk for gastric adenocarcinoma. Raman spectra were captured from suspicious lesions and adjacent normal mucosa, which were biopsied for matched histopathologic diagnosis.

Introduction: Breath Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are promising biomarkers for clinical purposes due to their unique properties. Translation of VOC biomarkers into the clinic depends on identification and validation: a challenge requiring collaboration, well-established protocols, and cross-comparison of data. Previously, we developed a breath collection and analysis method, resulting in 148 breath-borne VOCs identified.

This study focuses on the composition and sources of dissolved organic matter (DOM) in the Fancun Reservoir, located in Ningguo City, Anhui Province, China. The investigation was conducted by analyzing the spectral characteristics of DOM using UV-Vis absorption spectra and fluorescence spectroscopy. The humic substances were dominated by fulvic acid, with an average DOM concentration of 30.
