Magnetic overdenture attachments can provide useful denture retention. A technique is proposed that involves installing the magnetic keeper in the overdenture abutment coping using laser welding. Compared with the conventional cast-to technique, the new technique provides a suitable contour to the abutment coping with the magnetic keeper and ensures proper mounting in the abutment coping, installing the magnetic keeper easily and effectively.

This paper presents progress made toward the overarching goal to adapt single-photon-counting microcalorimeters to magnetic fusion energy research and demonstrate the value of such measurements for fusion. Microcalorimeter spectrometers combine the best characteristics of x-ray instrumentation currently available on fusion devices: high spectral resolution similar to an x-ray crystal spectrometer and broad spectral coverage sufficient to measure impurity species from Be to W. As a proof-of-principle experiment, a NASA-built x-ray microcalorimeter spectrometer has been installed on the Madison Symmetric Torus (MST) at the Wisconsin Plasma Physics Laboratory.

We describe the design and performance of a magnetic bottle electron spectrometer (MBES) for high-energy electron spectroscopy. Our design features a 2 m long electron drift tube and electrostatic retardation lens, achieving sub-electronvolt (eV) electron kinetic energy resolution for high energy (several hundred eV) electrons with a close to 4π collection solid angle. A segmented anode electron detector enables the simultaneous collection of photoelectron spectra in high resolution and high collection efficiency modes.

Bioinspired Active Dynamic Dust Remover for Multiscale Stardust Repelling of Unmanned Probe Surface.

Nano Lett

January 2025

Key Laboratory of Bionic Engineering (Ministry of Education), Jilin University, Changchun, Jilin 130022, China.

Unmanned probes, mainly powered by solar panels, are effective tools for exploiting space resources to expand the human habitat. However, it remains a great challenge for the unmanned probes to actively repel multiscale dust particles in space. Inspired by the synergistic antifouling mechanism of fly wings and legs, a biomimetic dynamic antifouling surface (BDAS) was prepared based on a combination of self-assembly and template inversion.
