Purpose: To evaluate the effect of laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) on tear secretion.
Methods: A non-consecutive series of 42 eyes of 42 patients had LASIK for the correction of myopia and myopic astigmatism. The fellow eye served as a control. The mean preoperative spherical equivalent refraction was -5.25 +/- 1.00 D (range, -1.75 to -11.00 D). Attempted correction aimed at emmetropia. Schirmer I and II, and tear break-up time (BUT) tests were performed preoperatively and at 1, 3, and 6 months postoperatively. All tests were correlated to the amount of the attempted correction.
Results: Preoperatively, mean values were Schirmer I: 16.2 mm, Schirmer II: 11.6 mm, and BUT: 16.3 sec. One month after LASIK, mean values were Schirmer I: 12.8 mm, Schirmer II: 9.2 mm, and BUT: 13.3 sec. At 3 months, mean values were Schirmer I: 15.76 mm, Schirmer II: 11.3 mm, and BUT: 14.15 sec. At 6 months, mean values were Schirmer I: 15.96 mm, Schirmer II: 11.66 mm, and BUT: 16.3 sec. No correlation to the amount of attempted correction was found. Fellow eye tests were not affected at any interval.
Conclusions: Tear secretion following LASIK was decreased during 3 months after surgery and was normalized by 6 months.

Unlabelled: Dry eye disease is a multifactorial disorder of the ocular surface with increasing global prevalence, yet no universally accepted "gold standard" exists for its diagnosis or severity assessment. Tear matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP-9) is widely recognized as a valuable biomarker for dry eye, yet there remains a critical need for a simple, accurate, and broadly applicable method for its quantification. This study aims to develop and evaluate a Schirmer strip-based Eu-time resolved fluorescence immunochromatography (Eu-TRFICO) method for the quantitative detection of MMP-9 in tears.

Purpose: To evaluate levels of 3 tear-soluble neuropeptides in dry eye patients and to identify the correlations with clinical signs and symptoms.
Methods: A total of 16 dry eye patients and 12 healthy volunteers were enrolled. Dry eye disease (DED) diagnosis was based on the 2017 Report of the Tear Film & Ocular Surface Society International Dry Eye Workshop (TFOS DEWS II).

Objective: To evaluate the effects of Moisture Chamber Goggles combined with Fluorometholone eye drops on visual function and oxidative stress in patients with dry eye disease.
Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 80 patients with dry eye disease treated at Ninghai First Hospital from January 2021 to May 2023. Patients were divided into a combination group (n=40, receiving Fluorometholone eye drops and Moisture Chamber Goggles) and a monotherapy group (n=40, receiving Fluorometholone eye drops alone) based on treatment regimens.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate whether lacrimal gland tissue stiffness can aid in diagnosing dry eye disease (DED) using shear wave elastography (SWE). We also aimed to assess the correlation between the subjective symptoms of ocular strain, SWE values, and other ocular examination findings (Schirmer's test and tear film breakup time [TBUT]) contributing to the diagnosis of DED.
Methods: This cross-sectional study recruited 300 participants who were engaged in video display terminal (VDT) work and had been diagnosed with DED by an ophthalmologist for more than one year, and 100 healthy participants without DED symptoms, from August 2020 to December 2021.

Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of intense pulsed light (IPL) combined with meibomian gland expression (MGX) for the treatment of dry eye disease and meibomian gland dysfunction associated with chronic Stevens-Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis.
Methods: This prospective noncomparative interventional study included 29 patients (58 eyes) who underwent 3 sessions of IPL and MGX at 2-week intervals. Subjective symptoms (ocular surface disease index score) and objective dry eye tests: matrix metalloproteinase 9, tear meniscus height, bulbar redness score, tear film lipid layer thickness (LLT), Schirmer I test, conjunctival and corneal staining, meibomian gland loss, MGX score [meibomian gland score (MGS)], and tear break-up time were assessed at the baseline and after 4, 8, and 12 weeks.
