To comprehensively assess the in vivo expression of Candida albicans hydrolytic enzyme genes during oropharyngeal candidiasis (OPC), a controlled sequential analysis of the temporal expression of individual members of the SAP (secretory aspartyl proteinase) gene family and PLB1 (phospholipase B) in a murine model of OPC was conducted. Acute infections in intact C3H and DBA/2 mice were terminated by clearance of C. albicans within 7 days after oral inoculation, but transgenic (Tg) mice expressing human immunodeficiency virus type 1 were persistently colonized until a final outgrowth before death. In contrast to the sustained expression of other SAP genes and PLB1, SAP7 and SAP8 were conspicuously distinguished by their transient expression in both intact and Tg mice. SAP5 and SAP9 were most strongly expressed throughout the course of infection in the Tg mice. These findings indicate that expression of individual members of the C. albicans SAP gene family is differentially regulated during experimental OPC.

Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) are well-known for its expertise in synthesizing exopolysaccharides (EPS), which are linked to significant health benefits, such as its prebiotic effects and ability to modulate the immune system. However, the synthesis of EPS is hindered by low yields. The objective of this study was to investigate the impact of co-cultivation on EPS output by Weissella confusa XG-3 when paired with Candida shehatae.

Aim: This study aimed to assess if the addition of origanum oil to denture materials could decrease microorganisms counts and biofilm formation without changing their mechanical/surface properties.
Materials And Methods: A total of 66 resilient denture liner discs (SoftConfort, Dencril Comércio de Plásticos Ltda, SP, Brazil) were prepared with fixed dimensions of 10 × 3 mm for biofilm assay ( = 36) and 12 × 2 mm for sorption-solubility tests ( = 30) containing three oil concentrations - 0, 2.5 and 5%, thereby = 12 per each group samples for biofilm assay and = 10 per each group for sorption-solubility test respectively.

Problem: Recurrent vulvovaginal candidiasis (RVVC) affects 5%-10% of all women, negatively impacting their reproductive health and quality of life. Herein, we investigated the molecular effects of RVVC on the vaginal mucosa of otherwise healthy women.
Method Of Study: Gene expression analysis was performed on vaginal tissue biopsies from women with RVVC, including those with a current episode of vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC, n = 19) and women between infections (culture negative RVVC [CNR], n = 8); women asymptomatically colonized with Candida albicans (asymptomatic [AS], n = 7); and healthy controls (n = 18).

: Antimicrobial peptides are generally considered promising drug candidates for combating resistant bacterial infections. However, the selectivity of their action may vary significantly. Natural gomesin, isolated from haemocytes of the tarantula , demonstrates a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activities, being the most effective against pathogenic fungi.
