Heterologous protein expression often faces significant challenges, particularly when the target protein has posttranslational modifications, is toxic, or is prone to misfolding. These issues can result in low expression levels, aggregation, or even cell death. Such problems are exemplified by the expression of phospholipase p37, a critical target for chemotherapeutic drugs against pathogenic human orthopoxviruses, including monkeypox and smallpox viruses.

Article Synopsis
  • M-pox is a rapidly spreading pathogen in developing countries, particularly in Cameroon, raising concerns about its health impact and the lack of data on its determinants.
  • A community-based study conducted in the Ayos Health District found a suspected M-pox case rate of 25%, with various factors like history of infections and contact with infected individuals or animals significantly linked to its prevalence.
  • The study highlights the need for enhanced surveillance and public health interventions in rural communities to better address the resurgence of M-pox.

Article Synopsis
  • This study aimed to evaluate how effective the MVA-BN vaccine is at preventing mpox infections in real-world settings, specifically in Ontario, Canada.
  • Researchers matched vaccinated men (who received the vaccine at least 15 days prior) with unvaccinated men based on several health and demographic factors, assessing the rate of mpox infections over a 153-day period.
  • Results indicated that the MVA-BN vaccine was about 58% effective in reducing the risk of mpox infection compared to unvaccinated individuals, suggesting that it can be a valuable tool in controlling outbreaks.

Background: High incidence mpox rates suggest asymptomatic individuals may contribute to virus transmission. We undertook this study to assess the seroprevalence of IgG anti-MPXV in a cohort of asymptomatic PLWH, to analyze the size of the phenomenon of asymptomatic infections.

Materials And Methods: From October 2022 to March 2023 we serially collected serum samples from PLWH attending our Clinic.

Introduction: Before the global mpox outbreak which began in 2022, the real-world vaccine effectiveness (VE) of mpox vaccines was unknown. We quantified the VE in the global population of 3rd generation or later mpox vaccines (MVA-BN, LC16m8, OrthopoxVac) compared with unvaccinated or other vaccinated states for infection, hospitalization and death. VE was stratified by 1-dose and 2-doses and post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP).
