We investigate numerically the failure process when two elastic media, one hard and one soft that have been glued together thus forming a common interface, are pulled apart. We present three main results: (1) The area distribution of simultaneously failing glue (bursts) follows a power law consistent with the theoretically expected exponent 2.5, (2) the maximum load and displacement before catastrophic failure scale as L(2) and L(0), respectively, where L is the linear size of the system, and (3) the area distribution of failed glue regions (clusters) is a power law with exponent -1.6 when the system fails catastrophically.

The Ichkeul-Bizerte Lagoon Complex (IBLC), a critical ecosystem for local biodiversity, faces a pressing threat due to climate change and severe pollution. Despite past conservation efforts, pollution persists, particularly in the Bizerte Lagoon. This study investigated the impact of water dynamics and climatic conditions on heavy metal contamination in the IBLC's sediments.

Justifying a proposed government regulation intended to reduce firearm violence requires a conceptually sound estimate of the monetized value of that impact and how that value is distributed across the population. Some previous estimates do not serve as a valid basis for policy evaluation or are out of date. A nationally representative survey was conducted by the AP-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research in August 2022 (n = 660).

Background: Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), which is a neuromodulation therapy for psychiatric disorders, is not widely used in Norway. We aimed to investigate whether doctors in mental health care are familiar with and interested in the method, as well as the reasons for its limited use and the key factors required for its implementation.
Material And Method: An anonymous electronic survey questionnaire was distributed to all active members of the Norwegian Psychiatric Association in the autumn of 2022 (n = 1979), consisting of 484 specialty registrars and 1495 specialists.

Background: Hemifacial microsomia (HFM) presentation includes gross distorted ramus, malposition temporomandibular joint, small glenoid fossa, distorted condyle and notch, malformed orbit, cupping ear or absent external ear, and facial nerve palsy. HFM is the second most prevalent congenital deformity of the face, with little literature from the South African population. This retrospective study elucidated the demographic characteristics and clinical presentations of HFM patients in a select South African population and compared it to the literature.
