Four new prenylated isoflavonoids, vogelins D-G (1-4), were isolated from the CH2Cl2 extract of Erythrina vogelii root bark in addition to the known compounds isolupalbigenin (5), ficuisoflavone (6), ulexone (7), isochandalon (8), and isoderrone (9). The structures 1-4 were elucidated by spectroscopic and chemical methods. The absolute configuration of compound 1 was determined on the basis of its CD spectrum. Possible biogenetic relationships among the E. vogelii isoflavonoids are briefly discussed.

Pre-eclampsia (PE) is classified as pregnancy-specific hypertensive disease and responsible for severe fetal and maternal morbidity and mortality, which influenced an approximate 3 ∼ 8 % of all pregnancies in both developed and developing countries. However, the exact pathological mechanism underlying PE has not been elucidated and it is urgent to find innovate pharmacotherapeutic agents for PE. Recent studies have reported that a crucial part of the etiology of PE is played by placental oxidative stress.

This study aimed to prepare defatted ethanol extract of Abelmoschus esculentus leaves, Morus nigra leaves and Punica granatum peel, to identify the chemical composition of these extracts and to explore their efficacy in counteracting diabetic neuropathy. LC-ESI-MS spectrometry was the hyphenated tool for component identification of these extracts. Behavioral, biochemical, and histopathological investigations were carried out after treatments of diabetic rats.

Glabridin is an antimicrobial compound which can be extracted from plants, such as liquorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra) roots. Although its activity against foodborne pathogens and spoilage microorganisms has already been reported, the investigation of potential applications as a surface disinfectant is still largely unexplored.
