Purpose: Rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) may be caused by a flap tear or by an atrophic hole along the lattice degeneration. The aim of this study was to see whether different types of scleral buckling could achieve comparable reattachment rates in eyes with specific types of RRD.
Patients And Methods: 128 eyes with RRD were assigned to receive 1 of 3 buckling procedures according to the following guidelines: retinal detachments caused by flap tears were treated with radial segmental buckling; retinal detachments caused by atrophic holes with limited lattice degeneration were treated with circumferential segmental buckling, and retinal detachments caused by multiple breaks with extensive lattice degeneration were treated with encircling buckling.
Results: 56 eyes received radial segmental buckling, 36 eyes received circumferential segmental buckling, and 36 eyes received encircling buckling. The reattachment rates in these three groups were 83.9, 86.1, and 88.9%, respectively (no statistically significant difference). The visual outcomes were comparable in all groups. Younger age, an increased requirement for subretinal fluid drainage, longer operation time, and myopic shift were noted in the encircling group.
Conclusions: Comparable reattachment rates could be achieved in all three groups according to our guidelines. Segmental buckling is appropriate for two thirds of RRD in this study and has fewer complications than encircling buckling. Every retinal detachment behaves differently and should be subjected to its optimal buckling procedure to achieve the best results and to avoid unnecessary operative complications.

Purpose: This study aims to examine the correlation between specific clinical parameters, such as axial eye length, and the onset of ocular hypertension "OH" following the use of silicone oil filling in patients with high myopia.
Method: In this retrospective analysis, we reviewed 214 eyes from 432 patients diagnosed with severe myopia, all of whom underwent vitrectomy and were treated with silicone oil filling. The study aimed to document the incidence and timing of postoperative ocular hypertension "OH" while assessing various factors, including demographic details, medical history, additional surgical interventions, and findings from supplementary examinations (such as axial length, silicone oil emulsification, and anterior chamber penetration).

High-velocity lateral impacts to the nose sometimes cause nasal buckle-out fractures with a trapdoor buckle-out segment displaced outwards. Prolonged immobilization of a reduced buckle-out segment at risk for outward redisplacement remains challenging. Here we introduce a novel method of intranasal outer cortex splinting with a Kirshner (K)-wire to reinforce the reduced state and prevent outward re-displacement of the buckle-out segment.

To describe a case of frosted branch angiitis-like retinal vasculitis that developed after scleral buckle surgery. A single case was evaluated. Five days after nondrainage scleral buckle surgery with a segmental buckle and encircling band, an otherwise healthy 39-year-old man presented with frosted branch angiitis.

In percutaneous interventions, needles are used to reach target locations inside the body. However, when the needle is pushed through the tissue, forces arise at the needle tip and along the needle body, making the needle prone to buckling. Recently, needles that prevent buckling inspired by the ovipositor of female parasitic wasps have been developed.

Anterior segment ischemia (ASI) is a rare, almost forgotten complication of scleral buckle (SB) surgery. The course varies from mild self-limited to severe type causing significant vision loss. A number of local and systemic factors can precipitate ASI.
