The purpose of this paper is to consider the many influences that have an impact on appropriate speech-language pathology service delivery. The competitive cooking and entertainment television program, MasterChef, is used as an analogy to consider the ingredients, blend and approach required to improve speech-language pathology services. Speech-language pathologists (SLPs) enter the profession with the aim of assisting those with communication and swallowing disorders to have a better quality of life.

ABSTRACT The forest landscape of the United States has changed over time, as has public concern for the trees, water, and wildlife. Early in the history of the United States, forests were viewed as an encumbrance and an inexhaustible resource, used to meet the needs of a growing nation. Around 1900, it became clear that old approaches were not sustainable and forest pathology saw its beginning.

Texture-modified diets are commonly prescribed for patients with dysphagia; it is therefore important to demonstrate that clinicians form accurate impressions of the rheological (flow) properties of the items that they recommend for their clients. We explored the correlation between objective rheological measurement and clinicians' subjective impressions of liquid consistency, rated on the bases of product labeling and sampling. Ten liquids, ranging from thin through nectar-thick and honey-thick to spoon-thick consistencies, were selected for study.
