The purpose of this study was to evaluate the usefulness of 99mTc labelled ciprofloxacin imaging in detecting the presence of infection in patients with symptomatic knee prostheses. Among 16 randomly selected patients of whom seven had infection based on clinical and microbiological findings and nine did not, 99mTc-ciprofloxacin images were obtained at 1, 4 and 24h after the injection of the tracer. While there was some diffuse non-specific accumulation of 99mTc-ciprofloxacin in large synovial joints and in prosthetic knee joints, the infected knee prostheses were found to show more intensive focal uptake, which also extended outside the synovial cavity. The infection related uptake remained visible in the 24h images, whereas non-specific uptake had a fading tendency at this time point. 99mTc-ciprofloxacin imaging showed diagnostic sensitivity of 86% and a specificity of 78% for correctly classifying the presence of infection. The data indicate that 99mTc-ciprofloxacin imaging may be used in the diagnosis of knee prosthesis infections. Infection-related uptake remains visible in the 24h images and is typically found also outside the synovial cavity, which should be noted in the evaluation of the images.

Background: Owing to the risk for septic arthritis, traumatic arthrotomies are an urgent surgical problem for the treating orthopaedic surgeon. Traditionally, diagnosis is with the saline load test (SLT), although in the awake patient is an invasive and potentially painful procedure. While computerized tomography (CT) has been shown to be a reliable diagnostic tool for traumatic arthrotomies of other joints, its role has only recently been investigated in the setting of ankle arthrotomy.

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate whether combining the analysis of different magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) signs enhances the diagnostic accuracy of lateral meniscus posterior root tears (LMPRTs) in patients with anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries. We hypothesised that analysing the cleft, ghost and truncated triangle signs and lateral meniscus extrusion (LME) measurement together would improve the preoperative MRI-based diagnosis of LMPRTs.

Methods: This retrospective study used prospectively collected registry data from two academic centres, including patients undergoing primary or revision ACL reconstruction (ACLR) and LMPRT repair.

Fluorescent probes are widely used in cellular imaging and disease diagnosis. Acting as substitute carriers, fluorescent probes can also be used to help transport drugs within cells. In this study, commonly used fluorophores, TAMRA (5-carboxytetramethylrhodamine), PBA (1-pyrenebutyric acid), NBD (nitrobenzoxadiazole), OG (Oregon Green), and CF (5-carboxyfluorescein) were conjugated with the dipeptide β-Ala-Lys, the peptide moiety of the well-established peptide transporter substrate β-Ala-Lys(AMCA) (AMCA: 7-amino-4-methyl-coumarin-3-acetic acid) by modifying it with respect to side-chain length and functional end groups.

The rising incidence of pancreatic diseases, including acute and chronic pancreatitis and various pancreatic neoplasms, poses a significant global health challenge. Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) for example, has a high mortality rate due to late-stage diagnosis and its inaccessible location. Advances in imaging technologies, though improving diagnostic capabilities, still necessitate biopsy confirmation.

Background: Diaphragm thickness is a potential marker of sarcopenia in addition to muscle mass and strength at extremities. We aimed to clarify the descriptive epidemiology and prognostic significance of diaphragm thickness in the general population.

Methods: The study participants were 3324 community residents (mean age: 61.
