This study analyzes the social representations of healthcare for deaf individuals by healthcare professionals. To this end, a qualitative study was conducted, applying the Theory of Social Representations in its procedural approach. In-depth semistructured interviews were conducted with nurses, nursing technicians, physical therapists, and physicians from a health facility in Porto Velho, Rondônia State, Brazil.

Objectives: This longitudinal experimental study aimed to profile audiometric hearing loss, explore the feasibility and efficacy of low-cost hearing devices, and examine their social and emotional impact on participants in South Sudan, a low-resource humanitarian setting.
Design: We performed pure tone hearing screenings on adults with self-reported hearing disability, randomly providing eligible participants with one of two inexpensive devices-Asana Pro 800, a non-customizable hearing device fit unilaterally, or the Super Ear SE9000, a hand-held amplifier with headphones given one per individual.
Study Sample: Between October 2022 and January 2023, 142 adults underwent hearing screening at the Juba Teaching Hospital ENT clinic, of whom 19 eligible individuals were provided with hearing devices.

Language comprehension is an essential component of human development that is associated not only with expressive language development and knowledge acquisition, but also with social inclusion, mental health, and quality of life. For deaf and hard-of-hearing adults with intellectual disability, there is a paucity of measures of receptive sign language skills, although these are a prerequisite for individualized planning and evaluation of intervention. Assessments require materials and procedures that are accurate, feasible, and suitable for low levels of functioning.

Methods: A published review protocol guided searches of four electronic databases and 11 CPG portals. CPGs published between January 2012 and September 2023 in English for adults with progressive or complex conditions were included. Recommendations were catalogued according to: author, year and country of publication; grading of recommendations made; number of recommendations made overall and number pertaining to AT; target condition and/or population; age group/s recommendations related to (if specified); type of AT (categorised into "cognition", "communication", "vision", "hearing", "self-care", "mobility", "combination" or "other"); target professions to apply recommendations; evidence grading; and reference to supporting evidence.

Wide dynamic range compression (WDRC) and noise reduction both play important roles in hearing aids. WDRC provides level-dependent amplification so that the level of sound produced by the hearing aid falls between the hearing threshold and the highest comfortable level of the listener, while noise reduction reduces ambient noise with the goal of improving intelligibility and listening comfort and reducing effort. In most current hearing aids, noise reduction and WDRC are implemented sequentially, but this may lead to distortion of the amplitude modulation patterns of both the speech and the noise.
