An analytical method for integrated analysis of organochlorine compounds and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) in large numbers of fish liver samples has been developed using one single clean-up step. Tissues are homogenized with anhydrous sodium sulphate and Soxhlet extracted with n-hexane-dichloromethane (4:1, v/v) for 24 h. The extracts are cleaned-up and fractionated with an alumina chromatographic column allowing the separation of the extracts in two fractions. One containing most organochlorine compounds, including hexachlorobenzene, DDTs and polychlorobiphenyls, and the other the hexachlorocyclohexane isomers and PAH. These two fractions are subsequently analysed by GC-MS. Tests of repeatability result in relative standard deviations mainly under 20%. Evaluation by the standard addition method shows good linearities and recoveries.

This study aimed to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of camellia oil on 2,4-dinitrochlorobenzene (DNCB)-induced atopic dermatitis (AD) in mice, as well as its effect on the expression of skin-barrier-related proteins. A mouse model of AD was created via topical application of DNCB; subsequently, the animals were randomly divided into four groups: the blank control (Control), model (Model), moisturizing cream (Moisturizer), and camellia oil (Camellia) groups. The Camellia group received camellia oil, whereas the Moisturizer group was treated with moisturizing cream, as a positive control.

Human papillomavirus (HPV) infections rank as the most prevalent sexually transmitted infections globally. The Brazilian Ministry of Health recommends the topical use of 70%-90% trichloroacetic acid (TAA) for treating condyloma acuminata, yet this method suffers from a high recurrence rate of 36% and requires roughly six applications. Topical photodynamic therapy (PDT) has shown effectiveness in targeting subclinical lesions, but it also necessitates multiple sessions for complete lesion clearance.

Semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOCs) are widely distributed across the globe, including polar regions. This study investigates the distribution and bioconcentration of organochlorine pesticides (OCPs), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in soils and Colobanthus quitensis, while also estimating potential emission sources. Results indicated high concentrations of PAHs in soils and plants from the Sub-Antarctic region, while OCPs and PCBs were more prevalent in the Antarctic region, with higher contaminant concentrations found in soils than in plant tissues.

This retrospective population-based study investigated the impact of elexacaftor/tezacaftor/ivacaftor (ETI) therapy on inhaled medication adherence in people with cystic fibrosis (pwCF). Prescription refill rate (PRR) for several inhaled medications were compared before and after ETI introduction in three major Italian CF centers. We found a significant decrease in PRR for most inhaled antibiotics and dornase-alpha after ETI implementation.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remains the most prevalent type of primary liver cancer worldwide. p53 is one of the most frequently mutated tumor-suppressor genes in HCC and its deficiency in hepatocytes triggers tumor formation in mice. To investigate iron metabolism during liver carcinogenesis, we employed a model of chronic carbon tetrachloride injections in liver-specific p53-deficient mice to induce liver fibrosis, cirrhosis and subsequent carcinogenesis.
