We report an acute Coxsackievirus B3 (CVB3)-induced meningo-cerebellitis in an immunocompetent adult patient. CVB3 has a global distribution and is the most common Enteroviruses cause of myocarditis and sudden cardiac death. To our knowledge, CVB3 is exceedingly rare as causes of meningo-encephalitis in immunocompetent adults, whereas some cases have been reported in neonates due to perinatal acquired infections or in immunocompromised patients.

Listeriosis is an infective complication that primarily affects pregnant women, patients at extremes of age or those with weakened immune systems. Ingestion of food contaminated with is the most common source of infection, causing self-limiting illness in immunocompetent hosts but associated with invasive infection and high mortality in high-risk patient groups. Milder illness presents as gastroenteritis with fever, diarrhoea, nausea and vomiting common in the 7 days post exposure.

Human Parechovirus type 3 (HPeV-3) is a neurotropic virus which can cause neonatal encephalitis, presenting as encephalopathy with seizures and diffuse white matter lesions on brain imaging. Neurodevelopmental outcome is linked to the extent of white matter abnormalities. We report on a neonate with clinical and biochemical findings of transient central hypothyroidism associated with HPeV-3 encephalitis.
