Bioassay-guided fractionation of the chloroform-soluble fraction from the stem wood of Formosan Lindera communis led to the isolation of two new cytotoxic butanolides, lincomolide C (1), lincomolide D (2), as well as two new secobutanolides, secolincomolide A (3), secolincomolide B (4), together with four known compounds, including one butanolide, isoobtusilactone A (5), and one secobutanolide, secoisolancifolide (6), one sesquiterpene, epi-cubenol (7), one steroid: beta-sitosterol (8). Compound 4 existed in enol [(2E)-2-[(1R)-1-hydroxy-2-oxo-propyl]-6,9-dimethyl-8-hydroxy-hexadec-2,7-dienoic acid methyl ester] (4a) and keto [(2E)-2-[(1R)-1-hydroxy-2-oxo-propyl]-6,9-dimethyl-8-oxo-hexadec-2-enoic acid methyl ester] (4b) tautomers. Compound 2 showed significant cytotoxicity against P-388 and HT-29 cancer cell lines. Also, 2 exhibited marginal activity against A549, 5 against P-388, and 1 against P-388, A549 and HT-29 cancer cell lines. Their structures were determined by spectroscopic analyses.

Four undescribed butanolides, linderangolides A-D (1-4), along with four known congeners, lincomolide A (5), (-)-epilitsenolide C2 (6), (-)-epilitsenolide C1 (7) and litseakolide H (8), were isolated from the roots of Lindera angustifolia. The planar structures of 1-4 were elucidated based on extensive spectroscopic analyses, the relative and absolute configurations of 1-4 were determined by the NOESY spectra and the comparison of calculated and experimental ECD. The cytotoxic activities of all isolated compounds were tested, 4 showed inhibitory activity against SGC-7 cells with IC value of 6.

Ten undescribed diterpenoids (1-10) and three undescribed phenanthrene derivatives (11-13), together with seven known compounds, were isolated from the roots of Baliospermum solanifolium. Their structures were determined by a combination of spectroscopic data analysis, electronic circular dichroism calculations and single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies. Compounds 1-7 (baliosperoids A-G) represent the examples of 20-nor-ent-podocarpane class first discovered in nature.

Trichomoniasis is the most common non-viral sexually transmitted infection worldwide and it may have serious consequences, especially for women. Currently, 5-nitroimidazole drugs are the treatment of choice for trichomoniasis, although presenting adverse effects and reported cases of drug resistance. Metabolites isolated from marine fungi have attracted considerable attention due to their unique chemical structures with diverse biological activities, including antiprotozoal activity.

Background: Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most frequent, lethal and aggressive tumour of the central nervous system in adults. The discovery of novel anti-GBM agents based on the isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH) mutant phenotypes and classifications have attracted comprehensive attention.

Purpose: Diterpenoids are a class of naturally occurring 20-carbon isoprenoid compounds, and have previously been shown to possess high cytotoxicity for a variety of human tumours in many scientific reports.
