Analysis of the capsid protein gene of a feline-like calicivirus isolated from a dog.

Published: April 2002

The authors report the sequence analysis of the capsid protein-encoding gene (ORF2) of a calicivirus strain recently isolated in Italy from a pup with enteritis. Sequence comparison and phylogenetic analysis revealed that the isolate is highly similar to field and reference feline caliciviruses (FCVs). The isolation of a feline-like calicivirus and the results of recent serological investigations suggest that FCV infection frequently occurs in dogs, but the consequences of this interspecies infection in the canine host are still unknown.

Bacilladnaviruses are single-stranded DNA viruses that infect diatoms that, so far, have been primarily identified in marine organisms and environments. Using a viral metagenomics approach, we discovered 13 novel bacilladnaviruses originating from samples of mud-flat snail (; =3 genomes) and benthic sediments (=10 genomes) collected from the Avon-Heathcote Estuary in New Zealand. Comparative genomics and phylogenetic analysis of the new bacilladnavirus sequences in the context of the previously classified members of the family helped refine and further expand the taxonomy.

Phylogenetic Analysis of Geminiviruses.

Members of the family Geminiviridae have single-stranded (ss), circular DNA genomes that are encapsidated into non-enveloped quasi-icosahedral twinned (geminate) particles, causing yield losses in several economically important crops worldwide. Sequence-based approaches used for molecular characterization of Geminiviridae genomes, associated with powerful bioinformatic tools, provided a better picture about the true extent of the Geminiviridae species diversity. This chapter describes procedures to reconstruct Geminiviridae phylogenetic relationships based on coat protein (CP) and replication-associated protein (Rep) amino acid sequences and full-length nucleotide genomes using both maximum likelihood (ML) and Bayesian inference (BI) approaches.

Unlabelled: Hepatitis A virus (HAV) is a major causative agent of self-limiting liver infections. India was highly endemic for HAV in the past; children were exposed to the virus at an early age without any disease symptoms and developed lifelong immunity. With improvements in living conditions, an epidemiological transition is occurring.

Background: A newly uncovered parvovirus, Chaphamaparvovirus, continues to be reported across various species. This study investigated the detection and genetic characterization of Chaphamaparvovirus galliform (GaChpV) in poultry, specifically broilers and turkeys, from various regions in Türkiye. To address this, comprehensive sampling and analysis were conducted to better understand the virus's distribution and impact in these avian populations.

Subunit vaccine of PCV3 capsid protein produced by sf9 cells with double knockout of Caspase-1 and Dronc induces strong immune response in mice.

Porcine circovirus type 3 (PCV3) associated with multisystemic clinicopathological diseases in swine herds has caused economic losses and there is no available commercial vaccine. Production of PCV3 capsid protein (Cap) by Spodoptera frugiperda 9 (sf9) cells using baculovirus expression vector system (BEVS) is a valid strategy to develop vaccines. Here, we report that subunit vaccine of PCV3 produced by sf9 cells with double knockout of Caspase-1 and Dronc genes induces strong immune response in mice.
