In an attempt to develop predictive tools for the determination of new ionic liquid solvents, QSPR models for the melting points of 126 structurally diverse pyridinium bromides in the temperature range 30-200 degrees C were developed with the CODESSA program. Six- and two-descriptor equations with squared correlation coefficients (R(2)) of 0.788 and 0.713, respectively, are reported for the melting temperatures. The models illustrate the importance of information content indices, total entropy, and the average nucleophilic reactivity index for an N atom.

Reaction of 2-amino-5-iodo-pyridine (5IAP) with concentrated HBr at room temperature yielded 2-amino-5-iodo-pyridinium bromide, CHIN ·Br or (5IAPH)Br. The complex formed pale-yellow crystals, which exhibit significant hydrogen bonding between the amino and pyridinium N-H donors and bromide ion acceptors. Halogen bonding is also observed.

Reproductive toxicities of imidazolium- ([EMIM]X) and pyridinium-based ([APYR]X) ionic liquids (ILs) are essential to fully assess their hazards. Presently, effects of five ILs on the intricate processes of reproduction, including sperm-oocyte interactions, were explored in Caenorhabditis elegans. Results showed that 1-ethylpyridinium bromide ([EPYR]Br) stimulated oocytes, zygotes and total reproduction.

Elucidating the intrinsic relationship between disease and mitochondrial viscosity is crucial for early diagnosis. However, current mitochondrial viscosity fluorescent probes are highly dependent on mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) and are sensitive to other mitochondrial microenvironment parameters. To address these issues, a mitochondria-targeting MMP-independent and viscosity exclusive near-infrared (NIR) fluorescent probe, ACR-DMA, was developed.

Mono-/dimeric-substituted pyridinium and pyrazolium bromides were prepared under conventional and solvent-free silica-supported domestic microwave conditions. The atom economy, environmental product mass intensity and product mass intensity for solvent-free reactions showed significant importance for the synthesis of target molecules. 4-Nitrobenzyl-substituted pyridinium bromide showed potent anticancer properties compared with mono-/dimeric-substituted pyridinium and pyrazolium bromides against a lung cancer cell line (A-549).

Two ionic hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks (iHOFs) assembled from 4-cyano-N-(4-cyanobenzyl)pyridinium, have been crystallized with Br and antimony(III) pentabromide, [SbBr], as counter-ions and characterized. These are 4-cyano-N-(4-cyanobenzyl)pyridinium bromide, CHN·Br, and bis[4-cyano-N-(4-cyanobenzyl)pyridinium] antimony(III) pentabromide, (CHN)[SbBr]. The CH.
