Statement Of Problem: There are few in vivo studies on the clinical performance of all-ceramic crowns.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical performance of IPS Empress crowns.

Material And Methods: Thirty-seven all-ceramic IPS Empress crowns were placed in 20 patients. Twenty crowns were luted with Variolink II low-viscosity resin cement in combination with Syntac Classic dentin adhesive; the remaining 17 were luted with Variolink II in combination with Syntac Single Component. All procedural steps were performed by the same prosthodontist. Using the California Dental Association's (CDA) quality evaluation system, 2 calibrated evaluators examined the crowns for margin integrity, anatomic form, surface, and color for a period of 12 to 41 months, with a mean of 24.56 months after insertion. Kaplan-Meier statistical analysis was used to calculate the survival rate of the crowns. Values obtained for plaque and gingival conditions were compared to control teeth with use of the Wilcoxon signed ranks test (P<.05).

Results: Based on the CDA criteria, 94.6% of the crowns were rated satisfactory. Fracture was registered in only 1 crown. One endodontically treated tooth failed due to the dislodgement of the prefabricated dowel. No significant difference was observed in the gingival health status of crowns that had margins placed above or at the level of the gingival margin. However, in crowns that had subgingival margin finish lines, the percentage of bleeding on probing was significantly higher than that of the contralateral control teeth.

Conclusion: In this in vivo study, IPS Empress crowns luted with both dentin bonding agents functioned satisfactorily with a relatively low fracture rate over a mean evaluation period of 24.56 months.

Objective: For patients with infantile epileptic spasms syndrome (IESS) who have achieved remission of epileptic spasms (ES), indicators of how well the electroencephalographic (EEG) state should be maintained during follow-up are not available. We hypothesized that the time course of the Burden of Amplitudes and Epileptiform Discharges (BASED) score after ES remission is associated with ES relapse. This study aimed to investigate the association between ES relapse and BASED scores at the time of initial ES remission and during the subsequent follow-up period.

Deuterium Metabolic Imaging of the Human Abdomen at Clinical Field Strength.

Invest Radiol

March 2025

From the Department of Radiology, University of Cambridge, Cambridge, UK (P.W., M.A.M., I.H.-M., J.R.B., M.J.Z.-M., A.G., E.L., M.W., F.A.G.); University of Cambridge, Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute, Cambridge, UK (M.A.M., F.A.G.); and GE HealthCare, Munich, Germany (R.F.S.).

Objectives: The aim of the study was to translate abdominal deuterium metabolic imaging (DMI) to clinical field strength by optimizing the radiofrequency coil setup, the administered dose of deuterium (2H)-labeled glucose, and the data processing pipeline for quantitative characterization of DMI signals over time. This was assessed in the kidney and liver to establish a basis for routine clinical studies in the future.

Materials And Methods: 5 healthy volunteers were recruited and imaged on 2 or 3 separate occasions, with varying doses of 2H-glucose: 0.

Background: Intra- and postoperative adverse events are devastating to patients and costly for healthcare systems. In 2008, the World Health Organization Surgical Safety Checklist was introduced to minimise morbidity and mortality and to enhance team performance. It consists of three parts whereof the third part, the sign-out at the end of surgery, is generally performed poorly.

We report a case of an elderly female with subacute submental neck swelling, dry cough, and a history of significant weight loss. Unexpectedly, a left submandibular chronic sialadenitis was noted on ultrasound of the neck, along with a thyroid nodule that, on biopsy, showed lymphocytic infiltration. High-resolution computed tomography of the lungs revealed multifocal irregular consolidations with lymphadenopathy, and possible infective causes, including tuberculosis, were ruled out after a thorough microbiological evaluation.

The influence of gender is underexplored in endodontic educational research. This review examines the effect of gender on learning within the domains of skill acquisition, performance and difficulties encountered. It also analyses the stress and confidence experienced by male and female students during clinical endodontics, as well as their preparedness at the end of their undergraduate studies.
