[Gastric epithelioid angiosarcoma, a biopsy diagnostic pitfall].

Published: October 2001

We report the case of a 70-year-old man who presented a bulky gastric mass. The diagnosis of poorly differenciated adenocarcinoma was made on the biopsy. On surgical specimen, the final diagnosis of gastric angiosarcoma with secondary intestinal involvement was established. The patient did not respond to chemotherapy and died 8 months later. The diagnosis was difficult because of epithelioid areas which expressed both cytokeratin and vascular antigens. Human herpesvirus 8 previously detected in some soft tissue angiosarcoma was not found by polymerase chain reaction.

Purpose: MAK683, a first-in-class and highly selective allosteric inhibitor of the embryonic ectoderm development subunit of polycomb repressive complex 2, has shown sustained antitumor activity in tumor xenograft models. This first-in-human phase 1/2 study evaluated the safety, pharmacokinetics (PK), and clinical activity of single-agent MAK683 in advanced malignancies.

Methods: MAK683 was administered fasted once daily or twice daily continuously in 28-day treatment cycles.

Introduction: Perivascular Epithelioid Cell tumor (PEComa) is a rare mesenchymal neoplasm characterized by the co-expression of melanocytic and myoid markers. While PEComas can arise in diverse anatomical sites, gastric PEComas are exceedingly rare, with merely nine cases documented in the extant literature.

Case Presentation: Herein, we have presented a case of gastric PEComa in a 65-year-old male patient who exhibited a 3-year history of epigastric pain, with notable exacerbation in the two months prior to diagnosis.

Article Synopsis
  • * About 80% of GISTs have mutations in KIT or PDGFRA that affect how they behave and respond to treatment; a special type called SDH-deficient GISTs is linked to certain genetic syndromes and presents different challenges.
  • * The primary treatment involves surgery and the drug imatinib for advanced cases, but resistance to treatment is a major issue, particularly in kids and wildtype GISTs, highlighting the need for better therapies and personalized treatment approaches.

SMARCA4-deficient undifferentiated carcinoma (SMARCA4-DUC) of the stomach is a rare gastric tumor that has been receiving increased attention in recent years. With its varied pathological presentations, accurate diagnosis can be challenging. In order to improve our understanding of this aggressive neoplasm, we have carefully documented and analyzed 4 patients with gastric SMARCA4-DUC, adding to the overall knowledge of this uncommon malignancy.
