Clinical Presentations of Bupropion Prescription Drug Misuse: A Systematic Review.

J Clin Psychopharmacol

April 2024

Department of Psychiatry, Atrium Wake Forest Baptist Health, Winston-Salem, NC.

Background: Among prescribers, bupropion is considered a substance of low misuse potential, with some studies showing lesser misuse potential than caffeine. However, several case reports exist of recreational bupropion misuse and diversion. Our goal is to understand at-risk populations, clinical courses, interventions, and outcomes after acute ingestion of bupropion via oral, intravenous route, and insufflation.

1-(Phenylselanyl)-2-(p-tolyl)indolizine (MeSeI) is a selenoindolizine with an antidepressant-like effect in mice by regulation of the serotonergic system. This study investigated the involvement of dopaminergic and noradrenergic systems in the antidepressant-like action of MeSeI. For this purpose, Swiss male mice were pretreated with different antagonists, after 15 min, the MeSeI was administrated by intragastric (i.

It has been described that environmental enrichment (EE) exerts beneficial effects on cognitive and emotional performances, dendritic branching, synaptic density, neurogenesis and modulation of neurotrophic systems and neurotransmitters in rodents. However, the influence of EE on pharmacological and behavioral responses in animal models of psychiatric disorders has not been fully established. In this context, the aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of exposure to EE on mice behavior in the open field test (OFT) and forced swimming tests (FST), as well as the response to antidepressant drugs (fluoxetine 30 mg/kg and bupropion 30 mg/kg, p.

Weight-lowering pharmacotherapies provide an option for weight management; however, their effects on physical activity, function, and cardiorespiratory fitness are not fully understood. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials to investigate the effect of licensed weight loss pharmacotherapies on physical activity, physical function, and cardiorespiratory fitness in individuals with obesity. Fourteen trials met our prespecified inclusion criteria: Five investigated liraglutide, four semaglutide, three naltrexone/bupropion, and two phentermine/topiramate.
