Electroreduction-Driven Formation and Connectivity of Polyoxometalate Coordination Networks.

Inorg Chem

January 2025

Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, University of California, San Diego, La Jolla, California 92093, United States.

We present the synthesis of metal oxide coordination networks based on Preyssler-type polyoxoanions ([NaPWO] and [NaPMoWO]) bridged with metal-aquo complexes ([M(HO)], M = Co, Ni, Zn, Y), induced by electrochemical reduction. Networks bridged with first-row transition metals are isostructural with a previously reported Co-bridged structure, while the Y-bridged structure is new. All networks feature an uncommon binding motif of the metal cation to the oxygen atoms at cap positions, which we hypothesize is due to increased electron density at the cap upon reduction.

Photochromic films have attracted increasing attention for their potential in information storage and photoswitchable devices. Developing novel photochromic materials is still a highly challenging topic. In this work, we successfully obtained an unprecedented mixed-heteroatom-templated Er-incorporated polyoxometalate [HN(CH)]NaKH{Er(HO)WO[SeTeWO][B-α-TeWO]}·117HO () by concurrently introducing the [TeO] and [SeO] heteroanion templates into the Er/WO system.

Structural Variation In β-Octamolybdate Polyoxoanion Based Crystals Across Lanthanide Series Isolated from a Water/DMSO Solution.

Chem Asian J

December 2024

Solid State and Materials Chemistry Laboratory, Department of Chemistry, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, Hauz Khas, New Delhi, India, 110016.

The crystallization of lanthanide-containing β-octamolybdate (β-{MoO}) based solids from a binary 1 : 1 (water/DMSO) solution under ambient conditions is reported. A uniform synthetic protocol yielded three structurally related series of general composition {Ln(solvent)}[NaMoO] ⋅ yHO, with the whole lanthanide series (except for radioactive Pm). The three series are (i) {Ln(DMSO)}[NaMoO] ⋅ 0.

Multinuclear Antimony-Bismuth-Lanthanide Cluster-Connected Polyoxometalate for the Detection of 5-Hydroxyindoleacetic Acid via Luminescence.

The judicious selection and combination of multicomponents provide great potential for the further exploration of new polyoxometalate (POM) materials. Here, a delicate control on tungstate, Sb and Bi sources, Eu ions, and organic molecules led to the discovery of a novel multimetal cluster-embedded POM [HN(CH)]NaH{[Eu(HO)SbBiWO](SbWO)(SbWO)}·78HO (). The polyoxoanion of was constructed from four in situ-formed [SbWO] and [SbWO] building blocks connected by two hexa-metallic [Eu(HO)SbBiWO] clusters, to be a rare member of Sb- and Bi-coexisting POM.

The high carbon intensity of present-day ethylene glycol (EG) production motivates interest in electrifying ethylene oxidation. Noting poor kinetics in prior reports of the organic electrooxidation of small hydrocarbons, we explored the design of mediators that activate and simultaneously stabilize light alkenes. A ruthenium-substituted polyoxometalate (Ru-POM, {Si[Ru(HO)WO]}) achieves 82% faradaic efficiency in EG production at 100 mA/cm under ambient conditions.
